We have had no problems with Misty from day one with leaving her when we go out, she has always settled down and doesn't make a sound. BUT for the past couple of days we have come home to find her bed completely and utterly shredded along with a blanket that she has had since we first brought her home . She is 8 months old and has never attempted to do this before. Actually, thinking about it, we have noticed she has been a little clingy of late. Is this just a GR thing at this age or could it possibly have something to do with hormones?

No,she hasnt had her first season yet.
:)
hi, personally I think it could be one or the combination of theories you have suggested. Or her trying to nest as a phantom pregnancy if she has had her first season. Does she have interactive toys, like a kong or somthing similar, when you leave her? Maybe you can give her one to give her something else to do? Something that I have found to work is give the dog a strange texture blanket, which wouldnt feel nice in their mouth and therefore they do not chew it.

She has a knotted toy when we go out. Used to have a kong but she would never touch it, until we got home again and she could take it straight outside to have. She just seems to prefer taking food etc ie apples/carrots etc to her favourite spot on the decking outside to eat/play with.

It could be hormones and I hate to be negative, but I have one deerhound who never touched a thing until she was 6 months old. Then she proceeded to eat the house, and carried on doing so until she was 15 months when she had her first season. And when I say 'eat the house' I mean it quite literally! Amongst other things she ate through a wall and reduced most of a table and 4 chairs to sawdust! She now glories in the name 'Chain Saw Jaws'. :) I just hope that Misty is not going the same way .... :)

One of mine went through a stage of doing that but he was a dog so not related to seasons.
I stopped giving him duvet type of beddding and switched to vet bed which helped. I think it was the unstuffing he enjoyed.
After a while he could have other bedding again?????

Both of my GSD's (on entirely separate occasions) trashed their own bed. We were stunned, because neithr had ever ever shown any desire to do this before. First (girl) was about a year old and it was a month before she came into season, 2nd (boy) did it just 3 weeks ago, and he's 18 months. Absolutely no ideas why

One of mine does it irregularly (although once started it seems to happen regularly and then stop) I still am not sure which of the two is doing it as I never catch them at it and they both share the same kennel and bedding.
When it happens I just take away their bedding for awhile and they soon get the hint (but you can guarantee that 6 months later they will forget and we start the entire process again) Sometimes it can happen 30 mins after putting them out so not sure it is because they are bored! - but hey who knows :)

My collie is about 17 months old now and I can't leave anything on the floor that can be chewed - the only things that are left are kongs, a very hard chew toy bone and a large ball. She sleeps on the hard floor of her puppy cage at night. She has chewed up several mats that I have used to wipe my feet on. She loves lying on the soft rug in the hall - but cannot help herself and will try to scratch that up to chew. Can't understand it. Nor can I ever envisage her ever having a bed to lie on. The guy at the kennels looked at me as if I was cruel when I left the dog without a bed. She must have iron intestines the things she chews - it really worries me. Oh and she loves acorns and hazelnuts!
