About a year ago my old tyme bulldog started to bring back his food straight away after eating. this happened on and off for  few months, with the vet telling me to feed chicken and rice and then back onto normal food. then in april the vet xrayed him and took blood. he ruled out megaoesophagus (sp?) and said his blood showed no probems. it came to the point he was bringing up the chicken and rice. anyway, the vet precribed some prescription diet. for the first few days, buster contunued to bring it up, sometimes hours after food but still not digested (as if it wasnt entering his stomach). since the end of june he settled down and was ony sick twice in about ten weeks (both times just bile and no food - the same as all dogs do from time to time.) however, in the last two weeks he has brought the food back again on 3 seperate occasions - staight after food.  i think i should take him back to the vets. has anybdy else experienced this?

i have experienced dogs bringing up their food near enough after eating. Use to have a labrador that would nearly do it every night and then eat his food again. Just took it as his individuality and as there was nothing else wrong with him (after a vet check) left him to carry on with it and he lived til 13. but if your worried, is there another vet you can see in the practice to get a second opinion?

thanks for the reply. i dont think i need a second opinion at the moment as it seemed the problem had been solved with the prescription food. i suppose the frustrating this is the inconsitancy in the symtoms. like i said, for 3 months there were only a couple of times he was sick and that wasnt his food.

my staffy did this a few years ago and the vet thought it was because she was eating too quick.  they suggested changing the bowl or putting a ball in the bowl so she would have to eat round it and not bolt the food - she picked the ball out and then bolted the food!

If I remember rightly, your dog is an Aylestones?  When not feeding him the chicken and rice, are you feeding him the food that Aylestones themselves recommend?  If so it could be that he's developed an intolerance to the food, I know that many Aylestones dogs go on to develop this problem.
Put him on a good quality food, see if this helps.
