the victim? well er it was me  some of you may know that i work for a security company, with security dogs, dogs that are trained to bite, so everyday in theory i risk being bitten, (as does everyone who works with dogs) this is all part and parcel of my work, but in all the years that i have worked with dogs, which is since i have left school nearly 10 years ago now, i have never been bitten, i have had plenty of dogs go for me or mouth but i have never been bitten, that was until today, we had the vet out on a home visit as we had several dogs that needed vaccinations (so it is easier for a home visit) the last patient was Tabby a feral cat that we trapped two weeks ago, when he was trapped he was taken to the vets and had everything possible done to him, today he needed the second part of his vaccinatons, as i walked in to his cattery he recognised me immediatley, he then saw the vet and he exploded :D he ran all round the cattery up the walls across the ceiling, hissing and spitting all the way, i went in armed with a blanket as i went in he jumped up the walls came back down went for the blanket and got my arm, where he proceeded to bite continuously. he let go eventually, we changed tactics and managed to vaccinate him.
After everyone was finished, off i went to minor injuries where the nurse counted 15+ bites to my arm  . i couldnt believe it what with the types of dog i work with and its a cat that bites me, :D im bandaged from wrist to elbow with an iodine cream smothered all over my arm, my arms burning and throbbing and im booked into the docs for a tetnus jab tomorrow. so never mind the DDR how about a DCR (dangerous cat register) :D

Oh Dear Tanya, as I read this all I could think about was your bandaged arm and how it must look like the sort of thing you see people wearing when they're training dogs to chase and grab someones arm...the dogs in the kennel may all be hanging off your bandage

Anyway, poor you, sounds awful - hope you get a few days off now and can relax and recuperate away from the savage beast

ive got to go and catch tabby again tomorrow, box him up all ready to go to Norfolk

Only one of the dogs has tried to get my arm, i had thought that they may mistake my bandage for a sleeve but have been lucky. It does look bad though there i am walking a GSD/Rotti along the road, it says K9 UNIT on my back and my arm is bandaged  i have had a few strange looks, but the bandage does make it look worse than it is.

Daisy is going to Norfolk tomorrow along with her sis Bo, hopefully Daisy wont escape, i put her in the garden yesturday, went out the front to load all the rubbish in to my car (my dads really im borrowing it while he is on holiday, good job he cant see whats been in it :D) as i walked back past the garden i heard a noise only to see Daisy busy climbing over the 6ft fence  she wanted to see what i was up to :D

:eek:Poor you .....does that mean you're not going to pop in for a coffee before you go, in case one of my cats gets you :D :D :D ?

Cat bites are by far nastier than dog bites - don't know whether its because their needle sharp teeth puncture the skin more - I've only ever had a graze bite from any dogs we've owned/known - but I too have been savaged by a cat on several occasions - most memorable was when I had been bathing a cat and whilst rinsing it off, must have got some of the shampoo into its eyes - it went absolutely loopy, and finished up, jaws locked.....right through my finger and nail - I get the heebie jeebies just thinking about it now.   Poor cat was just shoved into drying crate whilst I brought myself round - only person in house at the time - finger felt like a Tom & Jerry finger and now, about 15 years later, when the weather is cold, and my fingers get cold, that particular finger feels as if I've scalded it - so the nerves are still all over the place!

i will pop in margot :),
Im not off until the end of the month, the animals are going before me.
Im still trying to trap the last feral cat at work though so there is a strong chance ill get bitten again.
The nurse did say that it was better that is was bitten today by this cat rather than when we first trapped it, as at least he had been eating a decent food, rather than hunting, and he had been vaccinated and wormed, it didnt hurt at teh time but it kills now, it feels very much like a chinese burn

Cat bites are by far nastier than dog bites.  Went to a medical conference where a doctor spoke on the three main types of bites his hospital sees, human, dog and cat, and how they treat them.  Said cat and human bites ALWAYS treated aggressively with injections of antibiotic.  Human teeth closer together and more likely to harbour bacteria though the bite not usually deep.  Cat and dog teeth more spaced out and the pointy bits especially so don't usually harbour as much bacteria as humans.  But cat bites nearly always deep punctures so whatever small amounts of bacteria present get put deep into tissue where they are more dangerous.  Dog teeth like cats but most dog bites more like a scrape across the surface and are just washed unless other signs (deep puncture or delay in seeking treament) indicate more aggressive handling.

Supposedly a local Vet lost a finger due to an improperly treated cat bite.

My mum was once attacked by a cat just flew onto her grabbed her by the neck with it's paws and wouldn't let go.  I've seen a few nasty cats over the years I think that's why I'm not very keen on them!

I'd rather deal with a nasty dog than a nasty cat   Been bitten by both and the cat did more damage  of course, teeth and claws are usually involved with the cat

Get yourself to hospital ASAP, you;ll probably need antibiotics, cat bites are more like bacterial injections as their canine teeth are grooved and therefore carry more bacteria ;)

Hope you feel better soon {{{HUGS}}}

we changed tactics and managed to vaccinate him.

Bet you wished you'd tried the new tactics first :-D

Hope the wounds heal quickly, you deserve a medal :)

it was only after i had been bitten that the kennel maid informed me that they have a net

well i went to the docs today for my tetanus jab, only to be told that i can only have it with diptheria and polio, so im covered for all 3 for a  further ten years :D , i asked the nurse to take a look at my arm as i had a feeling that it had swollen up as the bandage was tight and my arm was throbbing and burning, she removd my bandage and my arm is huge and red  and is now septic, so im now on antibiotics.

tabby on the other hand has decided he doesnt not like me at all and went for me as i shut his travel box up, he just looks at everyone else and hisses when he sees me coming, he is going to be kept in a cattery in norfolk for a few weeks before being released, i daresay well will never see him again, but at least he will be away from roads and will no longer be able to get his wicked way :D
