Just a quick question.  What do people use for the treatment of fleas?  I was just checking Misty over and one jumped on me.  Can't find any more and she hasn't been noticeably scratching.  whats the best way of tackling this?

I use frontline.  Although I've never seen a flea I'd be amazed if my dog hasn't come into contact with them so assume that Frontline is doing its job.

I use garlic, and I spray the car and house twice a year.  I do not spray or otherwise my dogs.

I use frontline. With 4 dogs and 4 cats (as well as numerous other animals) its not worth the risk of an infestation!

I use Frontline. The dogs (and cats!) hunt so the place would be alive with fleas if I didn't.

I use the frontline spot on for fleas and ticks too, never seen a flea but have had ticks lots of times before using it. Since I started using it we've never had a tick - despite walking in farmers fields and areas where deer graze too.

If you've already got fleas you need to treat the whole house, car and anywhere else the dog goes as well as the dog. Once this is done you can move over to monthly spot on or whatever to stop it happening again.

I go for advocate, it does ticks and worms too!

This info about Advocate doesn't mention ticks ...

or tapeworm? So you'd still have to use drontal or similar presumably??
- By Dogz Date 07.10.06 13:34 UTC
Ooh er! there was me so convinced over the ticks too! As for tapeworm well I am very shortsighted....so convinced was I!
However it is great otherwise. But, had I more than a one dog to pay out for then I would be on the garlic and much more money-wise than now.

We use Frontline for fleas / ticks, and Drontal for worms. :-)

We use Frontline Combo for Fleas and Ticks, luckily we have only had fleas once when my mums dog gave them to mine since then they never get left without Frontline and Drontal for worming.

I have been told recently that Avons Skin So Soft is great for keeping the flies and insects at bay when your out, but also recently read on a website that it can be sprayed on to prevent fleas. (Not sure whether this is true) but it does work with the flies.

I use Frontline for fleas and Drontal + for worms and I'm happy to say that I've seen no evidence of either!

Just out of interest though, I was sitting outside Sainsbury's caff this afternoon talking to a couple with a 5 month old Springer when a chap came up to admire the pup. As is the way of doggie conversations, things soon turned parasitical and the chap swore that a crushed clove of fresh garlic and a spoonfull of olive oil added to his dog's meals had kept it absolutely free of fleas throughout its life.

He then rather weakened his theory by assuring the owner of the Springer that since fleas were blood sucking they were directly related to vampires who, as any fule kno, cannot abide garlic. Unfortunately, he was quite serious too!!!
