Just tried that chloe

the colum total is 34.92 (E8) so I put in E8*40% and it give me an answer of 349.20% instead of  13.97?

any ideas of what im doing wrong?>

The column type is wrong. You need to select the sum column (the one with the answer in) go to format cells and select number.
That should do it :)

Hmmm, if you are subtracting 40% you will be left with 60% so wouldn't *60% do it?

I will get used to this programme eventually i promise, can anyone help with this one as im no good in doing the calculation but where it works out the equation for you?

In colum A I have a total,
In colum B I need to show the VAT on colum A,
in colum c I need to show the total of colum A ex VAT
In colum D I need to times colum c by 25%
In colum E i need to minus 220
in colum F I need to have the total of D-E

   A            B           c                      d                  e               f
Take  Ex Tax  Total Take Ex VAT  25% Commision  Minus Wage  Total

Hope someone can make sense of this?

Hi M

Assuming that the total in column A is the price including VAT you need to multiply column A by 100 and divide it by 117.5 to get the total ex vat.

eg. in cell B2 put =A2 - A2*100/117.5 - this will give you the VAT paid
in cell c2 put = A2*100/117.5 - this will give the total ex vat
in cell D2 put =C2*0.25 - this gives you 25% of the ex vat total
in cell E2 put =D2-220 - takes off your 220
in cell F2 put = D2-E2 (not sure what you are trying to do in this column as this will just give you your 220 you took off in column E )

I think this is right but bear in mind its nearly midnight and I'm just back from a weekend at HOYS
Hope it helps

for advice and help on excel and other software go to www.ict-help.com  I find this site very good, although aimed at Children it's very informative for the novice software user.
