If you are interested, Royal Melbourne show is currently running in Australia and the daily Best of Breed, Runner Up BOB's can be seen here.

Well that showed my ignorance - I thought the Australian Silky was a Yorkshire terrier:eek: I have never heard of that breed before.

Thanks for this, love all the photos :-)

Really interested in the hounds.

its nice to see some traditionally docked dogs with tails :)
- By ChristineW Date 28.09.06 21:20 UTC
Personally I thought the Spin with the tail made it look 'mongrelly'.
- By ClaireyS Date 29.09.06 16:12 UTC
hmm, I agree about the spinone, it did make it look quite odd - it has a really long tail doesnt it
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 29.09.06 16:16 UTC
To be honest I thought the Spinone looked much better with the full tail than the usual truncated fat-bum look.
- By ClaireyS Date 29.09.06 22:45 UTC
I thought it looked quite a long tail, but then I suppose thats because im used to seeing them with a short one !!!  To be honest though any dog with a tail looks better than one without *runs into hiding*

Re the Australian Silky. You aren't the only one. There are some judges out there who don't know the difference either ;) I have a friend who has a good example of the breed. She is regularly called out with the call' Could I have the Yorkie next please'. She stands where she is until the judge, or steward comes over and then makes a big show about it. :)

Like my boy Jack, he is an 'Australian Terrier'' not silky and folk think he's a yorkie 'type' just a bit too big

held over 11 days it must be a huge show, wonder what the entry numbers are like

In dogs, the entries are like an ok UK open show, it really isn't that hard to make up a dog in Australia. I think Melbourne gets the largest entry out of all the Royals.

I can't speak for the rest of the livestock entry though!

Although it takes that many days there are usually only 2 judges, the numbers are quite small really. No where else do they have the sort of numberts where we have which is why a Ch in the UK is held in such esteem.
