I am considering a break or me and OH in Feb half term. Not too expensive. Maybe somewhere in Europe. I went to Rome when I was 17 and always had a hankering to go back. Open to suggestions either for flying or even coach travel Its been years since I went anywhere except on a ferry to a dog shoW. I dont like very commercial places (that rules out Blackpool.Lol). Totally green about this sort of thing so your views would be most helpful.
Thnx

Barcelona!!! Fabulous city, oodles to see and do...not to mention the amazing tapas bars ;) Less expensive, IME, than Rome, Paris, Amsterdam :)  Several of the low cost airlines fly there such as Easyjet & Jet2.com and apartment rental is very reasonable.  PM me if you are interested and I can recommend some sites for accommodation etc :)

Dubrovnik, absolute jewel, beautiful harbour, fantastic city wall to walk on, and soo picturesque. great romantic feel with little alleys, old lamps outside shops, have I sold it to you yet !!

Another vote for Barcelona! Love that city, so much to see and do...but definitely not a peaceful, quiet break if that is what you are looking for.

Ive always wanted to go to Prague, that is next on my list.

I would go back to Rome, too much to see in one weekend :)

this is going to be hard. I have been to Paris and Amsterdam (going again for all winners show too). Does anyone have any thoughts on these coach tours that are avialable or is it better just to fly and book hotels separately.

Venice is fabulous! All I expected and more :) See it before it sinks! ;) Barcelona - is a must see too.

See it before it sinks!  :-D  Very funny.

I too love Venice, but it can be expensive, a friend of mine hated it, I can't imagine how you could but she did. She has no romance in her soul. Infact Italy on a whole is a really lovely country to visit.

My mother went to Bulgaria and loved it, not a place I would have thought of but apparently it is really nice.

If you are after peace how about one of the quieter Greek Islands, when a nipper I went to a place called (sorry can't remember how it is spelt) Masongi ??? Near Corfu or on Corfu, It was really peaceful and the people were so friendly and the beaches were un-crowded.

I have never been to Austria or Switzerland would love to see those two, but again I think they are more expensive as is Cyprus. (Well they are)

Tenerife, Lanzarote, the world is your oyster, plenty of places in Europe to go and look out for all the bargains.

I think we all enjoy our holidays wherever they may be, it's who you go with that really makes it. :-)

Another vote for Venice, nowhere else like it in the world. We went in mid-low season and thought it was absolutely magical.

Try Amsterdam - it's fantastic.  I flew there and back from Edinburgh for just 49 pounds return last February.  Loads to see and do and very easy to get around either walking or by tram.  I didn't think it was any more expensive than UK when we were there and no language barriers which was helpful as my Dutch is pretty poor!  Or we went to Berlin as well year before last.  That was even cheaper at 24.99 return although we did have to fly from Newcastle.  That was Easyjet as well.  Both really good.

Palma is wonderful.  Beautiful city and beaches as well.  Flights to Mallorca are quite cheap now.  I love the place.  The cathedral is amazing

Sorrento on the Amalfi Coast in Italy is stunning!  Just been there trekking.  Well worth a look.  Bout 1 1/2 hrs from Naples airport.

I'm not sure when half term falls but I've just had a quick look at http://www.flybe.com late Feb and fares to Malaga are £17.04 each way -plus £34? taxes - from Birmingham (is that your nearest airport?) Most low cost airlines have great deals if you book early :)

All the usual suspects (and a couple of not quite so usual suspects)...

Vienna. Athens (for a bit of cultcha like). Copenhagen- you can even see the little mermaid. Iceland even though it's a little more expensive but hey, volcanoes and hot springs! Croatia is a good one, gorgeous beaches and scenery but not too expensive (yet). Orkney/Shetland/Any of the Hebridean islands- Mull and Barra are my favourites... or anywhere in the Highlands to be honest, it's all beautiful. I would thoroughly recommend Orkney, the ferry ride can be a bit choppy (although having said that I loved the choppy boat ride!) the wildlife is fantastic and the history. You can see the ships that were scuttled during WW2 at Scapa Flow and an ancient stone age village at Skara Brae and of course there's the Old Man of Hoy absolutely covered with puffins.

Vencie is wonderful - I get paid to go out there to "work"

Gosh I am getting more spoilt for choice by the day. Shall I try to narrow it down. I dont like over commercialised places or mega busy ones, really like space and tranquility but still within range of a bit of sight seeing. To be honest my ideal holiday is somewhere quite isolated like cottage in wales. We went to Anglesey last year on a CDers recommendation and it was brill cos we took some of the dogs. Its just that I have had a bit of an unexpected windfall so felt like being a bit more adventurous but I am gonna miss dogs even though the kids will be home to look after them. So am torn really:confused:
