i have just been told my bitch could have epilepsy due to surging hormones as she seems to get small twitching sesions when in or about to come into season. has anyone else heard of this? the vet thinks spaying could cure it but obviously cant be certain. does anyone know if its hereditary?
thanks

Epilepsy can be caused by all sorts - epilepsy is usually the diagnosis given when no other cause for seizures is found - I do hope spaying will help though as I lived with a best friend dog with epilepsy for 9 very stressful years :(

Sorry not much help but we used to have a male Pomeranian many years ago that used to have fits when the bitches came into season!  The rest of the time he was fine, but we always knew when one of the dogs was about to come into season as his strange stare used to start and he'd go all stiff.  He did grow out of it but it was really strange that it only happened at this time.

There is a good site in Australia-put robert mcdowell in search engine-you can have a free on line consultation. Worth a try. I have used him for several health issues and so have friends and all with good results. A nice person to deal with and very interesting.

My friends yorkie suffers from epilepsy, and she has had her spayed, but its not stopped the fits. she is only 2yrs old.
