Just need to moan a little. Yesterday I lost my oldest cat. Endora was 15 ½ years old and had certainly had a good life, very good age for a Persian. She was older than all of my children and the pet I've had the longest of any in my lifetime, so it was hard and it seems so strange that she no longer is here.
This morning I found my Cockatiel Charlie in a terrible state, she's very ill. She was handreared and I've had her for 4 years, she's very tame and has her own room (away from cats and dogs!) with her friend Dino :). She was ill the same about 2 months ago and the vet didn't think she'd recover then but she did with antibiotics. The fact that she is now back to square one again is a bad sign indeed. :(
I hope nothing else will go wrong now.
Sorry to hear about your cat :( R.I.P Endora x
I'm sending you lots of good luck {{{vibes}}} You deserve lots of good luck :)

You have been having such a rotten run of bad luck lately - and when you lose yet another beloved pet - one who has been part of your life for as long as Endora has been, it is doubly so. Try and remember the good times with her - and I do hope that once again, Charlie will pull through.
Hang on in there - things will get better. {{hugs}}

So sorry to hear about your cat, what a fab age but like you say, it's never easy - I miss my cats every day and the eldest was 4 when he dies :(

Sorry to hear about Endora :( A hard wrench I'm sure but how lucky you were to have her for so very long :)
Don't be too despondent about Charlie either, if he pulled through once surely he can again.

Sorry to hear about your cat.
Sending some hugs to you ((((((hugs))))))

Sending LOTS of positive thoughts to Charlie.
Run free Endora.

Thanks everyone. I just hope now Charlie can be okay.
I was very lucky with Endora. She had a long, good life. She was with me since the day she was born. When we went to the vet's yesterday, we had been told we could not get to see our favourite vet as he was not on duty. Yet when we arrived he was there and he took care of things for us. He explained that he had been called out to do an emergecy operation on a dog that had been hit by a car. The dog a died so the op wasn't needed hence he had time to see us. I don't know any details of the dog, but I said to my husband that we were the LUCKY ones. We had Endora for 15 ½ years and she had to be put to sleep due to old age, she'd had enough, and we'd had time to prepare ourselves. The dog's owner lost their dog in an unexpected accident and didn't have a chance to say goodbye and no doubt it was younger than 15. Yes we were lucky in comparison.

Sorry to hear about your cat, Marianne. I understand how much you must be missing her, after all those years together. Like you say, you had time to get used to the thought of loosing her, but it still hurts. You're very brave to be able to think of other people's losses at the moment!
Keeping fingers crossed for Charlies recovery. If antibiotics helped the last time, I'm sure the odds are good it will do so again!

Hi Marianne,
I know you must be devastated about Endora - you were together for such a long time and I'm sure you shared your private thoughts, heart aches and joys with her along the way. She will always be in your heart of course and that's a very safe place to be.
I hope Charlie's meds see him make a full and speedy recovery. Positive thoughts and vibes are winging their way as I write.

Thanks everyone. Charlie is not well at all and now her companion is sick as well :( but I'm trying my best.... I still kind of imagine Endora is asleep out of sight somewhere, she often slept underneath my compter cupboard (switched the power off a few times!), guess it will really hit home when I get her ashes back.

So sorry Marianne such a sad time but you always have your memories.
Roni
I'm so sorry Marianne, it never gets any easier, does it...{{{hugs}}}

So sorry for you :-( I lost my cat last November, it was devastating so I know how you feel, almost a year on and I still expect to find him laid on my Sons bed. Wishing recoveries for Charlie & friend.

Charlie is still alive, had honestly expected to find her dead this morning. She is so thin and so weak, but she IS eating -got all the favourite food to tempt her. Dino also unwell but hasn't lsot the weight.Don't have a good feeling about this but who knows...... Does anyone know, if worst comes to worst, if pet cramatoriums do birds as well as dogs and cats? I always get my most special pets ashes and Charlie would be one of them. (Guess what I am doing here is expecting the worst so it won't come as a shock if it happens. ) :(

I have been to the Cambridge crem twice, and as far as I know they do anything - horses and snakes being some we noticed...

Well we saw the avian vet today and she was very good. We were there for 2 hours! She treats no other animals than birds and reptiles, and had her little rescue dog with her in the consultation room.(It looked like a German Spitz cross. She had been treated by another vet in the same practice for a broken leg, and the owner never collected her because of the bill. So this vet took her home and now she comes to work with her! She said because she does not treat dogs or cats se can do so.)
She was impressed with how tame and friendly my birds were, both Charlie and Dino you can easily handle and do anything with. She said straight away that Charlie needed to be x-rayed, and as she was so weak she managed to do it without sedation. The first plate showed up the stomach as a big mass but it was not very clear, so she was given a contrast x-ray next. There was an enormous tumour in the liver. There was nothing we could do. The vet said we could keep her for another week or so on painkillers if we wanted to, but I said no way, it is not fair on Charlie and how SHE feels must come first. The vet said she was so glad to hear that, and did I realise how RARE it is? She said most people put their own feelings before the bird's. So Charlie was put to sleep, we said goodbye and stayed with her.
The good news is that the other one, Dino, isn't actually ill at all, she is depressed. Partly because Charlie was ill, partly because I had to keep both birds caged during Charlie's illness as she was too weak to be allowed outside the cage. Normally they stay out of it all day. The vet recommended we get a new friend for Dino ASAP and even recommended us a breeder she really trusts that sells hand reared baby Cockatiels.
It is 4 years to the day today that I got Charlie, and she was my first really tame bird. A lifelong ambition really. I have had birds all my life, more or less, but never a really tame one before.
So in just 8 days we have lost two of the "main" pets here -Endora and Charlie. :(

I'm so sorry Marianne, that is so sad. Good for you for being such a loving person. I am very glad to hear that Dino is not ill and hope you get her a friend soon. How nice to find the right vet for your bird; probably not easy to do! I hope she's back to being perky once she gets back to her normal routine.
Big hugs from us

So sorry to hear this, Marianne :(
Marianne, that's very sad, I'm sorry. I had 2 birds, cockatiels, which I had for 13 years until one succumbed to an illness, I decided to give the other one to someone I knew with a really nice aviary and other cockatiels. I missed them both terribly.

Thanks all. I hope the recommended breeder has something available (not called yet) as Dino has never been alone in her life before now. Not to mention it will be something for me to look forward to as well. Hopefully that's all my bad luck over with for a while now!

So sorry to hear about Charlie, Marianne. You and Dino must both miss her terribly. You've been through too much lately, I really feel sorry for you. Maybe a new feathered little friend for Dino, will be the turningpoint?!
Sending lots of good wishes for the future,

So sorry to hear about Charlie, but as usual you did what was best for them, not you. Seems like you are due a little good luck now, hoping you manage to get a lovely little hand tame baby soon and things start looking up.
