I went to Glee a garden home and leisure trade fair today where there were also pet products(But boss got fed up looking at the pet section after about 20 mins so had to go back to landscaping :() I have been given a 2.3kg bag of Berties Senior Plus Chicken and rice. ingredients....
Whole Rice, Chicken, Barley, Whole linseed, Peas, Natural Seaweed, Elastin, Vitamins and minerals, Yucca Extract, Glucosmin, Condroitin and MSM.
Now I already give G&C so that is not an issue,
Just wondering what people thought of the food????
i used to feed aytarky but the dogs 'went off it' I think I had a dud bag but didnt think to much of it till later!!!!
Now they are on Bakers just as a stop gap until I can find something else(Also was easier when the dogs were staying at my partners parents as her dogs are fed bakers but I now want to change them to a better diet agin. And like the look of this Berties,

Biggest single ingredient is rice (so it is really rice and chicken) ;) The bulk of the food is cereal ie rice, barley and linseed. Linseed can prove problematic for some dogs and not others as it is an inefficient source of Omega 3s for dogs.

Ok Tohme, that explained alot  LOL   I dont want it to make Gemma worse. But want her and Beano off bakers to see if Gemma improves.
Incidentally Beano doesnt seem to be scratching as much since starting this food.(1 week)
Anybody else????

Going by the ingredients,i wouldnt feed it,for the reasons tohme listed. It lists chicken, not chicken 'meal'.Whole meats listed as chicken, lamb etc without the meal are 70% water,so even though chicken is listed as the 2nd ingredient by weight, most of that weight is water,so imo this food is seriously deficient in meat.
Whats the protein and fat content? I would bet they are on the low side.

To be honest,i think any dog would improve if put on just about any food after eating Bakers! You cant get much more lower quality than bakers, and also once you take the preservatives, colours etc out of a dogs diet they are bound to improve, this isnt even taking into account it's terrible ingredients :(

I think you are forgetting about the cooking process which reduces the water content of chicken to about 60%.  Of course water is necessary to a dog too!  :)  The end amount of protein is what counts and as the commercial foods are formulated by people qualified in nutrition, who know their tongue from their ear ;) I expect everything required by a dog is in there.  If you think otherwise perhaps you should report them to Trading Standards.
Removing colouring and preservatives from a diet, by the way, will only have an effect on an individual dog that has shown an intolerance to one or the other.

I will say my dogs have only been on Bakers for about 3 months after they would not eat Autarky (As in they would not eat for a week until I gave them something else!!!!! Oh and Gemma will eat ANYTHING with no adverse reactions!!!! LOL
Well they have been doing well on Berties so I will go and get a sack today and see how they get on :)
Thanks everyone
