Hey there, folks! I'm an American who recently decided to purchase a Basset Fauve de Bretagne, and am hoping to find other owners of this breed to talk with about the dog and the breed background.
I won't be receiving the puppy until September 28, 2001, and can't wait! I grew up with dogs and have been biding my time until my husband and I bought a house to get a dog. He's never had one before, so it'll be a new experience for him (and hopefully a good one!)...
I've registered here but haven't received my password yet, but in the meantime, I look forward to meeting some of you and getting back into the "dog world". =)

Woo hoo!! I got the password a moment ago...glad to be officially on board!
Be prepared to be peppered with MANY MANY questions - even though I've been a dog owner in the past it's been 10 years since I lived full-time with a dog, and I've NEVER dealt with a puppy, so this will be interesting.
Talk to you more tomorrow! My workday is over, so I'll catch up later!

Hi Jaynee, there are not very many BFDB's in this country but there are some very nice youngsters about, so may be there numbers will increase. As they are still listed as Rare Breed by our Kennel Club they can not at the moment be awarded titles which count toward becoming a Champion. I think they a delightfull and as not too big, ideal for those who keep their hound in their homes. I hope you have much pleasure with yours, do you show dogs? Jackie H.

No, I do not show dogs - although I had thought I might try to do so if the AKC ever decides to allow BFdB to be approved. But for now I'll just have the one dog as a pet, add a Pug in future, and maybe work on agility training. We have a large backyard and I had thought about setting up a few agility exercises for the dog.
I'd love for AKC to allow the BFdB - then I'd definitely think about getting another one specifically for showing, if I could find someone here in the NYC area that would be willing to mentor me.
