Hi all,
In the dog papers I sometimes see dogs that are in co-ownership, could someone explain what this means?, who does the dog live with? and how do you go about doing this? etc.

Thanks
Jess

Hi Jess
I own my dogs in partnership with my husband. Our affix is also reg'd to us both. Only personal choice though (means he's dragged into it in name so he has to do the chauferring to shows!) ;)
However, I don't think that's what you mean.
I also have a dog in partnership with another breeder. He lives with us now and that was the reason for it all really. He had been with my partner since birth but had developed a marked shyness, particularly with men, as she is divorced he really didn't get to meet men on a day to day basis. I had always liked him (in fact I have 1 of his daughters) so one day while we were chatting we decided to give him a try living with me as I'm married and we have a 9 year old son too, so life here is much more hustle & bustle. He loved it, and he is progressing well in *man meeting situations* so much so that he actually won a good Post Grad class of 6 at South Wales in July under a male judge! It was decided that he should stay here and his registration was altered to include my name, my name is first as it means he is benched with my other dog. :D
Don't know other peoples reasons for partnership and I don't know if you could guess where the dogs live by whose name is first

Hi, I own several dogs jointly with friends/partners. Some are co-bred and co-owned with Michael, with whom I sahre an affix, but we both have other dogs owned seperately as well. In our case the partnership came about becasue I was bored having split up with my 'ex', who had kept the horses we used to show together. Mike suggested (as I already had 2 American cockers, but not show dogs) that I go with him to America to have a look at the American Cocker "National" show. We bought a bitch in partnership there, a few months later bought a dog pup here, who looked promising, so as Mike was going to handle him it made sense to jointly own him - his name was "Dexter" and the rest is Dog Show history. As offspring from these 2 have been born several have been in joint "custody'so to speak. No hard and fast rules about who lives with whom - in usually works out that I keep the brood bitches and stud dogs not currently in the ring, and Mike has the dogs we are showing at the moment. The bitch I own with 2 other friends was bred by Mike and is by Dexter, she lives with Susan, who handles her.

Who goes first on the entry forms is pretty much down to luck - depends which of us is sending in that particular entry form:)

That is interesting Gwen, your last comment. The way I understood it the ownership had to go on entry forms as it appears on the registration certificate, and that all owners have to sign the entry form.

because of this I have batches of labels with all our signatures to stick on the forms.

I am wondering what the rules are as regards the signing of eye certifiacatea and Hip forms? Will probably give labels to the liv-in owner just in case.

Hi Brainless, As long the names are as the registration certificate, the order doesnt matter! It is just to make sure the dog is in the correct ownership. Yes, all owners have to sign - we just take turns with who pays.

We dont have hip scoring done, but with eye testing it is always just one of us who signs, and on quite a few occasions when I have taken frineds dogs for testing I have had to sign on there behalf.

Oh I am glad that there is no problem about who signs the hip and eye forms! He will need to have his done quite soon after his first birthday (november), as his first bitch will be due in season January.

I am in partnership with 3 friends with a puppy dog we imported from America. I couldn't have afforded the expense on my own, and as I own bitches and live in an average suburban house I couldn't possibly have a male here.

I had really liked photos of the pups grandma, got talking to the breeder via email, and one of the partners had corresponded with her over the years. I mentioned to a well established breeder friend about my admiration, and she suggested we put out feelers to the breeder, and the fourth lady was willing to have the day to day care of the dog.

The partnership is equal, and we all put in to the kitty, and all expenses are then paid out. The partnership will run for six years, and after that he will be owned outright by the person he lives with, or one of the others, and all financial interest of the erstwhile partners will cease.

On his registration the first named is the perosn whose address he is under, and the rest are listed alphabetically.
