i have heard spaying ruins the coat of dogs such as golden retrievers. does anyone know if it ruins schnauzer coats? and if so how? i use a coat king on my bitch and she has a nice hard coat.
thanks

The coat could become very woolly and much more profuse.  I've seen a male cocker with a beautiful correct coat go very curly and woolly and he doesn't seem to shed at all now, it's made the coat much harder to cope with :)

On the other hand it's improved the colour and texture of my Bedlington girl's coat, but then, her coat was very affected by hormones as she got older, now her coat is back to what it was when she was about 2 years old.

Unfortunately there's no way of knowing what will happen until it does :(   I only strip entire Schnauzers so haven't seen a neutered Schanuzer who hasn't been clipped (they're all clipped in the local salons  ) and clipping makes the coat soft and woolly anyway

Pity it didn't make my Yankee's coat thick and profuse, he could do with a decent amount! :-D

Typical really :(  we never seem to get what we want :)

I'm wondering if neutering makes the coat revert more to the puppy/young adult stage, what with the lack of hormones etc. ?  this would make sense as my bitch had a lovely coat as a puppy and young adult and now it's back   It would be interesting to collate information on this as it may be a way of forecasting the likely outcome on the coat at least.
