18 year old has just got her first car. Any suggestions for cheap insurance please?

Ouch is all I can say!  Our daughter is 18 in December and we have been looking, cheapest so far is £1800

Be thankful you have daughters. Sons are even more expensive to insure. :(

We found Direct Line to be the cheapest some years ago for our 17 year old son :)

Have you tried confused.com - they are very good for finding cheap insurance, although I haven't tried using them for youngsters :)

CIS.  They come to your home but they are not pushy.  Just have an old fashioned way of dealing with their clients but I quite like it that way.

But it is always good to check out other prices with, say, confused.com. Most insurers 'load' renewals and usually you can get cheaper elsewhere :)

I went on one of the search engines recommended on the martin lewis site and quinn direct came up as the cheapest.  The difference between the cheapest and most expensive was approx £1K.  Although I'm not under 25 it was still my first car and if its any consolation, it halfed this year with one years no claims bonus/

Have tried these suggestions.Cheapest for 3rd party id Direct line with 585. Cheapest fully comp is 722 with elephant. Will keep searching but they are not bad so far.

I was with Direct Line anyway when my son started driving - I did shop around and they still came out cheapest so would definately recommend them.  I've never had any problems with claims etc either.  It's all sorted very quickly and efficiently (household is with direct line too).

Have just this week insured my 17 yr old son with CIS and they were the heapest by far. Just one thing though, go directly to their site for a quote. I used a couple of the search companies and although they recommenede CIS, the actual quote was a lot higher.  If the driver takes pass plus, some companies give additional discount, the difference to my 17 yr old was £230 off his policy which more then paid for the extra tuition and I feel better knowing he has the extra experience, motorways etc.

I had CIS when I got my first car. 22 and only just passed and bought an F reg peugeot.
It was the cheapest by FAR for a few years. The ones fo women drivers and young drivers are the most expensive I found when looking into it.

My daughter insured her first car with Tesco which was the cheapest. She is about to insure her first brand new car, she is 21 and has found Direct Line to be the cheapest. If anyone else in the house is insured with Direct Line they will give a discount on the 2nd policy. Can't remember how much the discount is though.

Direct Line are very good for young people :) My son had his own insurance with them from 17. Daughter became a named driver on his car when she was 17. Son sold daughter his car this year and she took her own insurance out with them and they gave her the three years No Claims that she had got while driving on his insurance - so son (23) now has 6 years No Claims in his own name as well - all earnt on the one car :)

we've always found elephant.co.uk to be by far the cheapest :)

Always found Elephant the cheapest wih Diamond a close second. I've been with Elephant for the past 3 years and the price difference between them and other insurers has been £300+.  Would definately recommend you try them for a quote.

18 year old daughter insured on provisional licence - full comp - £560 !!!!!!!

We found this on line with Churchills but it was quite interesting how she got this price. She got an on-line quote and then tried some other places and then went back to Churchills on-line but had to re-enter her details as she didn't save them the first time. On 2nd try she was quoted a cheaper price than original and thought it must be wrong so tried again and it was even cheaper 3rd time around. Apparently this is quite common as the insurers themselves shop around too and their quotes can change from hour to hour. She accepted the £560 quote and then out of interest tried again 2 hours later and it had gone down by another £20 but the next day the same details brought forward a quote that was £200 more.

She now has her full licence but no reduction in premium for no longer being on a provisional as they said it was one of their more competitive prices anyway :D

Young drivers are more of a risk after they pass their test than before :) No supervision :D

My mum put me on her insurance for the first few years until I was able to pay £600 to go on my own when I was 20/21.

Thanks to all, opted for direct line in the end. Seemed the best quote and a reliable company :)

Was going to say to try Direct Choice, they were the cheapest for me when id just passed! :)
