Parti coloured poodles, i didnt know that people bred them. Has anyone ever seen one ?
- By Nikita [gb] Date 22.09.06 10:00 UTC
do a search, there's been a thread about partis and mismarked breeds (labs etc) on here before - I quite like them!

there is a lady in this country going to bring another into this country she already has a black and white bitch which is beautiful and she is planning to breed a litter.

Thanks for that.

They turn up in litters ever now and then. People try to avoid breeding them because they're non-standard. Don't tell me - they're being advertised as 'rare' and therefore expensive, aren't they?
- By Tricolours [gb] Date 22.09.06 16:16 UTC
I didnt ring them myself, but someone i know did, and she was told because they are rare and hardly anyone breeds them, the bitches are £1,000 and the dog £800.00 and the breeder said she has already sold one bitch.
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 22.09.06 17:19 UTC
That's just daft! They're not 'rare' at all - often when they turn up in litters they're put to sleep as unsaleable mismarks! If they're reared they're usually sold cheaper than the rest because of it. To pay a huge sum like that just proves how gullible people are.

Can't you get the same effect with dye?:eek: :D

What is parti please?
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 22.09.06 18:32 UTC
Not solid coloured. Black and white, for example.

Harley go into my profile and go onto my website.  I know my breeds a Spanish Water Dog but you will see what a parti-colour is like and as the Poodle is related to my breed they do have the same markings.

Parti's in Poodle's are not rare.  I'm sure that many breeders still cull their parti Poodles as I was told that this was done many years ago by a woman who had 3 of them.  All that they are is an undesirable colour and not wanted to be bred by people in the breed but of course as they are part of the breed the odd one will crop up now and again.

I'm so glad that they are accepted in my breed because I ADORE my parti black and white Spanish :d

Thank you - lovely dogs :)

It seems a bit harsh to have these pups PTS - does that still happen?
- By perrodeagua [gb] Date 23.09.06 09:27 UTC
I don't even think that they were PTS!!!!  I don't know but seeing that you never see them I wouldn't be surprised if many are still culled.

Why would you put to sleep a perfectly healthy puppy just because it is a non standard colour :eek: Surely they can just be pets and be sold without papers or with endorsements?

It never ceases to amaze me how some people in the dog world can be so RACIST towards their dogs, yes RACIST is the correct word, because they are discriminating against a dog purely on the basis of its colour, its seen as being less worthy of life even if its got nothing wrong with it  this kind of thing disgusts me more than the breeders who sell pups as rare etc. Killing a healthy pup because its the "wrong" colour thats nothing short of evil, why breed dogs in the first place if your going to kill them
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 23.09.06 09:48 UTC

>yes RACIST is the correct word

No it isn't, because they're the same 'race' (by which I suppose you mean breed) as the others.
- By bulldog bash Date 23.09.06 11:03 UTC
Well I might have known you would disagree JG :) To me a racist is someone who discriminates against someone of the same species because they are a different colour. Therefore in dogs to be a racist is to discriminate against a dog which is not a standard colour. But of course you always like to have the last word and you like to think your always right so if it pleases you then have the last word :)

Putting down healthy puppies because they are the "wrong" colour is not on!

>you like to think your always right

Sorry to disappoint you, bulldog bash, but you'll need to take you dispute about the meaning of the word to Dictionary.com, not me. 'Race' and 'colour' are not synonymous. :)

Edit: I actually agree with you that in my opinion it's wrong to put down puppies purely on colour grounds! ;) I'm just pointing out that you weren't, as you vehemently claimed, using the right word.  :)

It has been the case that mismarked poodles were pts.  They have traditionally been seen as undesirable in a litter, but with dogs being seen as accessories these days, no doubt someone will start selling them as rare and ergo desirable for their rarity value. Its  mad mad world.
Not sure about the genetics of actually being able to breed them specifically as I imaging it is a recessive gene of some sort? Anyone know if selective breeding of partis is possible ?
