hi all
my pups were all wormed at the vets yesterday with drontal puppy wormer and have all developed diahorrea today i have been advised to stop their feeds for 24 hrs to allow their tums to settle down and just make sure they got plenty to drink but im very unsure about this as they are only 6 weeks old, is it safe to starve them for 24 hours at such a young age?
any advice much appreciated

we had the same problem with our litter (5 weeks) after worming with panacur. we fed chicken and rice for 48 hours(as vet said to young to starve)and were also given a powder to put in the water to stop puppies getting dehydrated cant remember what it was called.

I have missed 2 out of 4 meals when I've overfed pups.
Please let your Vet know that the pups have had an adverse reaction. If you don't, they think that there have been no adverse reactions. ;) Every case needs to be reported to the manufacturers so that they can have a full picture of what is happening. :)
I would speak to the vet, I have heard bad stories about Panacur wormer and pups (serious), could be coinsidence but dont take the risk, I would speak tot eh vet ASAP if I were you.
Hi all, thanks for your replies,
have spoken to the vet and he has advised to miss out 2 meals and try them later this evening with boiled chicken and rice if no better in 48 hrs he wants to see them, they drinking plenty and are quite happy in themselves so will just keep an eye on them and see how they go today :)
thanks

We have experienced this with Panacur and Drontal, we do not feed for 12 hours then rice & chicken boiled for 24 hours usually settles down.
hi kwacker, i dont know if you remember but our pups were born the same evening. we have wormed ours with panacur at 2 weeks and 5 weeks with no problems.
hi all just a quick update,
the pups seemed to be alot better by early hours saturday morning, but by the afternoon they all had runs again and were being sick so marched them back to the vets he gave me some protexin to give them and told me to feed them boiled chicken and rice until their tums settle down.
did that by this morning tums settled down a treat.
now for the fun part ... we had to seperate mum from them during week as she got an infection that had affected her milk and vet gave her tablets to dry her milk up, pups fully weaned so vet said this wouldnt be a problem. ... she still has a little milk due to it taking a few days for medicine to work according to vet .. this morning when i was in bed (OH turn to stay with them last night) OH went upstairs to bathroom to get washed and changed when he came down he found mum in the whelping box feeding the pups :O within an hour or so of her feeding them they all being sick and got the runs again :( spoke to the vet on the phone and he says this is most likely the cause, she obviously jumping in and out of their box when we not around and i am to completely seperate mum so she has no access to the pups until she has no milk left at all he says at 6 weeks old its fine to do this although im not sure but will do as he says and hopefully it will only take a few days for her milk to fully dry up as im not keen on the idea of keeping her away from them for too long :( what do you guys think?
