I was going to ask the same thing, I havent made liver cake for ages and promised Fagan some for next weeks Agility if he promised to behave himself (this week he kept running off and doing circuits like a greyhound  )

Found this guys:

Put 8oz of liver in a blender and blend till it is nearly a liquid.

Add 4oz of wholemeal flour, 2 eggs and mix all together.

Cook at 180c for 40 mins until it is the texture that you want it. If you want it harder just leave it in for longer.

I think you can add garlic too when blending the liver.

ClaireyS - tell Fagan he must behave and not show his Setter madness next week!!  GOOD LUCK! ;)

I substitute the liver with Tuna, saves having to blend it and the dogs love it just the same, smells nicer when it's cooking too :)

I use liver, tuna and this weekend tried salmon. Nice and stinky!

For recipes do a search through the posts. There have been several posted for liver cake and for dried liver treats. I have to be careful with liver though as too much goes right through my dog. I usually use tuna now.

Oh cooking tuna - interesting!  At least will make less mess in your pocket dried out a bit!

You can use Naturediet as well, instead of liver.

Hi
I used to make liver cake, but can't be fagged with it anymore!  Therefore, I just cook the liver straight and it goes down just as well.  I spread the liver out on a baking tray, place in the oven on a low setting and let it cook away.  Then just cut into pieces and bag up.  If you cook it sufficiently it doesn't disintegrate and make a mess in your pocket like the liver cake and as I said, it seems to be enjoyed just as much.

the butcher just gave me a massive bag of liver for £1  Cos I said it was for the dogs he went out the back and got me a couple of whole ones.  AND he gave me some massive marrowbones and didnt charge me  Its not a butcher I have used before but I will be going back cos he said I can have a load of pigs ears and trotters too if I phone in advance :)

I will be making liver cake tonight, ready for obedience tomorrow, im going to take Fagan back and put him in the class below Alfie because he is being so naughty at the moment

I use a butcher all the time and he is really good to me giving me bones but I've never thought to ask for Pigs Ears - do you have to cook them in the oven?  I use liver but just cook it, if I'm caught out I use hot dogs ......

you can give ears and trotters raw - they are healthier that way :)

Well ive made my liver cake and im really impressed with it :o  Its not crumbly at all, just the right texture so it doesnt fall apart but is kind of spongy :p  It had a hard crust over the top though, the boys are just crunching their way through that

You can also substitute normal flour for gluten free etc if your dog
has a gluten allergy.
