Topic Dog Boards / General / Blaster..but which one?? recomendations..
- By HuskyGal Date 16.09.06 15:42 UTC
Trying to get organised on my things to do list...
As Sean Bean has yet to return my calls I'll move on to the next thing ;)

My life will be complete (and I will be able to wear black again during the great Husky coat blow ) If I finally invest in a Blaster, Ive been threatening for a while now ( the clincher was Teri telling me she'd rather live without her Hoover than her Blaster!! ( :) ) I like that logic!)
Ive shopped around a bit, but now spoilt for choice and being a typical Libran I caaaaaant decide!
Help!
Any recommendations?
Much appreciated!

I have a seperate blaster and dryer, both Simpsons.  My experience was (mine are quite old now) that the combined units were less efficient than the single units.  I'm sure that there are some owners of combined units that will tell you they are good. ;)

Using them professionally for nearly 20 years, I have always found Simpsons stuff to be reliable workhorses - not always the prettiest but they've never let me down, and have never been serviced. :)

I agree that a blaster is invaluable for a double coat, although I wouldn't be without my dryer either. :)

Hi HG :)

I recently bought this one after much deliberation. It copes well with the coats of a Newf and a Chow X...nearly blew poor Lola over the first time I used it on her  :D It doesn't heat but as it gets the water out of their coats in no time, I don't think that's a problem at all :)

Perfect!!
I couldnt have wished for 2 more perfect immediate replies!
Hoped I hear from you Val, and yes part of my dilemma in choosing was to choose the combinations or not!
Jules, funnily enough its the Metro I was erring on the side of (pic didnt come up on your link) is it the short fat one or the long one?? I was looking at the long Metro one.... and hearing it copes with the ChowX is heartening to me, as of course this little Eurasier (snoring) at me feet has a fair bit of that in her mix :D
Val..I notice some have heating elements and some dont (the ones with out market this as a plus) is this something to consider??
Still daunted by the choice!

The ones with heating elements double as dryers, but IMO usually poor dryers.  A blaster should just blast cold air, like a backwards vacuum cleaner!  Very technical! :D

Mine is 2 speed as I used to do small dogs as well as my own Roughs.  I'd also use the slower speed for a puppy.  The faster one for Rough Collie adults and once they're used to it.  It ripples the flesh if you put it on the inside of your forearm.:)  Some people think that heat harms the bloom on the coat and they dry only using a blaster.  I've always used both blaster and dryer on my Roughs and can bath, blast, dry, trim a full coated bitch ready for show in an hour.  If you follow the grooming video for my breed, that breeder uses only a blaster, which must take .............................

You'll be surprised how many friends want to come over once you've got one! ;)

The short, stubby black one :) There is a pic here (scroll down to the Metro Air Force Blaster B3) but I bought it from the site on the link above (as they're postage was free!! ;))

I have the Mega blaster 2, it has 2 1000 watt motors, got it from christies. £420 wouldn't be without it.
I dry the dogs in 15 minutes, the car in 10 and the patio in 5. And is excellent as an all over body massage for me.....now that takes 45 mins if I'm lucky .

:-D   I have the Tornado dryer 2 in one. I have westies. My dryer is 3 years old and I am still very happy with it, it's performance and reliability of it. Can't be more honest that that. It was approx £400. It is used ever week without fail.

OH is asking if he can use it in the garden as a leaf blower

just don't use it in the house, not unless you want a mini tornado of everything thats not glued down blowing around!!! :P :P and dog hairs on the ceiling :P

Remember when we first got our blaster and grooming table home from Crufts - unpacked them and set it up in the kitchen - just to see how it would work.....OH turned on blaster .....and cups, hanging on the dresser 5 ft away were blown off :D  !

I had thought that I might have been able to use it on Buster & Co......but then decided the only way that would be possible would be if someone were to stand at the bottom of the garden wearing a baseball catcher's mitt!

:P :P

But if you need to get hairs from under dressers, desks etc and can't be bothered to move the furniture, they come in handy ;) just get someone else to catch them all with the hoover :D :D

I'm sure I had another leo hiding behind the fridge ;)
