....you find out you're not.

On my way down the lane to work this morning I saw a lorry just miss a dog, when i caught up with the little dog i phoned ahead to work to get a lead so that the dog couldnt run off, the dog was a happy little dog very friendly and so happy to see a friendly face, so it was decided that the dog was to go in the run and that the dog warden would be called to come collect the dog. I phoned and spoke to the warden before 9am, i was told that someone would be out to collect the dog sometime in the morning, as the dog turned out to be agressive towards other dogs I phoned the warden an hour and half later to say that i needed the dog picked up asap, to which i was told that it would be 12.30 before anyone could get out to get the dog, or we could take it to the police station, but with 2 young children and a strange dog taking the dog to the police stn wasnt an option. At 1pm i phoned the warden again to ask why the dog still hadnt been collected (during all this i couldnt take out the dogs due to the little stray being in the way) to which i was told i had said dont pick the dog up before 12.30 so it would now be after 2 before the dog was gone. Finally at 1.45pm the warden came out and collected the little dog, a few hours later the council pound phoned me and said they had picked several dogs up from the same area as work, so i had the impression that they were saying that i was dumping the dog, also at first glance the dog appeared to be in good condition as my dogs are more important i never gave it a thorough going over, the kennels said that it was in a really bad state, I felt as if they thought it was down to me
The thing is, it took a while for them to collect the dog because i had caught it, if i had left it running free along the road they would have come and collected it sooner

sorry for the rant feel much better now :)

thats an overworked system for you i suppose, but how annoying to feel like your being critisized when you did it all out of the kindness of your heart and a sense of what is right.
were it not for you the poor dog would probably be dead now, which i suppose would save them paperwork and hassle!

Of course they would Tanya - them or the police when it caused a traffic accident and was injured or killed.

Don't let the pillocks of this world grind you down; you did good - and would probably do exactly the same thing in the future because that's the kind of person you are, the kind there aren't enough of.

thank you, i have now sent all the little dogs details to DogLost, the kennels werent that enthusiastic about me posting as they believe that she is a travellers dog, but I believe there is a chance that she has someone looking for her

At least you know the dog's not been flattened though and can live with yourself though, Tanya. :D

I see there's another couple of Labrador pups (9.5 weeks) stolen on Doglost. :(

I remember once finding a dog running down the middle of our road. We took it to the police station and they behaved as if we were really inconveniencing them.  I swear the dog took offence at their attitude, because he then proceded to throw up all over the carpet in the waiting area!

The trouble is that about 10 years or so ago the responsibility for stray dogs passed from the police to the council's dog warden. The police no longer have facilities for taking them in and it's genuinely not in their remit to deal with them.
