Hi all,
I'm just back from the vets with one of my cats who's been missing and come back a bit the worse for wear, suspected RTA but doing quite well considering.
My GSD is holding her ear down, and it's irritating her. I've checked inside and it is sore and a bit red, but she has been scratching and this could be self inflicted from her claws.
My Chi was like this for a couple of days about the same age, and when I took her it was all down to her teething, and disappeared without treatment.
The query is, is there anything that I am likely to have inside my cupboard that I could wipe her ear out with, or give her to alleviate it overnight until I re-assess whether she needs to see a vet tomorrow?

Could you not clean it with warm water, thoroughly dry and then apply a thin layer of Savlon? Unless someone comes up with a better solution thats what I would do :)
Thanks missie, I appreciate your contribution. Yes warm water would do ok, I was thinking warm Olive Oil, but I think that was what my Gran used to give for earache which could be quite different.
Will the savlon dry the skin out on the inside of the ear or you reckon it'll be ok?
If no one posts anything to the contrary I think I'll take the Savlon otion, as I think anything liquid running in her ear could irritate and make her scratch more as opposed to being soothing.

Hi
Just rub the savlon cream in so there's none left to run :) It might soothe it for a bit and I doubt it will dry the skin out, just don't go overboard with the application :D
All done and dusted, thanks for the advice Missie, I'll let you know how she's doing tomorrow :D

Hope its nothing too serious.
Hows your cat by the way?
GSD's ear is fine today, so I guess it was teething, her teeth are falling out at present, I suspect that she'd scratched her ear and further irritated it superficially, but the good news is Missie that your Savlon idea did the trick!
My cat Spike is much improved today Missie thanks for asking, not quite sure if he was in a RTA, or shut in somewhere and going crazy to get out again, he's had quite significant trauma to claws on his back feet - and a couple pulled out entirely. Pupils look normal today though and he's eating and drinking to make up for the days he was missing, so I am pleased and relieved. He's absolutely filthy though and when he's looking less sorry for himself I will bath the poor soul.

oh bless I am glad Spikes' alright.
And I'm really pleased that it was nothing more than 'toothache' ;)
