My little CKCS,has had surgery today for pyometra, she only finished her season last week and she isn't even two years old yet. I was so shocked and so worried for her.  She is spending the night at our vet hospital so the next 24 hours are going to be worrying.  Anyone else had such a young dog affected with this.

A lady I know bought a young Cavalier bitch from a breeder that had to be spayed after her first season She bought her a couple of weeks after she had finished her season & she then had to have an emergency spay as she was so ill

I had an 11 1/2 year old bitch spayed(she had a closed pyro)& she came though the op fine despite having a dickie heart & that was back in the 1980's

I am hoping that the worst is over and tomorrow we will be able to bring her home, she is on fluids.  Do they suffer any long term illness with this like kidneys etc.  I just didn't think that it could have been pyometra so i wasn't looking for it.  Such a shock, my poor little girl.

My old bitch lived until she was nearly 17 & was given a new lease of life after her spay

The only thing spayed bitches might develop is incontinency but none of mine did & I have had a few over the years

Pyo is one of those things that can hit at any age, I'm glad that it was spotted and she will now be ok, nethertheless it must have been a terrible shock, poor wee girl. Try not to worry too much the worst is now over and she will be home soon.

She is in safe hands now. Fingers crossed.

I had one last year, SHe was very poorly and very very toxic but she did come through it after being spayed and nursed for a few weeks. A year on she is very well.

Thanks for that, our girl is still on fluids today and they will watch her as she is not eating.  They may take bloods tomorrow if she hasn't picked up by then.  We just want her home but i shall go visit her later if i can to try and cheer her up.  She is young and strong so we are hoping for a full recovery once she is over it all.

My cavalier was nearly 9 when she had a pyo, it was an open pyo but still really nasty, the vets tried to treat it with AB's but she was getting worse so I told them to spay her, she was 12 when she died but had another 3 good happy and healthy years.

She is now eating, thank goodness.  We will be able to take her home tomorrow i can't wait.  This is something i shall always look out for in my other girl in the future, whatever the age.  TLC to follow for a couple of weeks.  Relief or what..............................................

That's good. Just found out my friend's bitch has had the same thing, blew up suddenly after an emergency post-mating injection - she reckons they're connected?

We have our girl home now and she is so much better, totally relaxed now and eating well.  She has pain killers to take and anti biotics, she takes these easily with a bit of cheese.  Back to vets on Friday just for a check but she isn't bothering her stiches yet.  Hope your friends girl is okay and makes a speedy recovery.

Hope she makes a full recovery,  my 7yo St Bernard went through it around 4 months ago and made a full recovery, she was back to her old self within 10 days of the op. Good Luck with her.
