As i mentioned on another post i will be moving in a few months, obviously all my animals are coming with me and all are fairly easy to transport, with the exception of my geese, i aquired them about 10 months ago when they were approx 3 months, i brought them home in a dog crate but this was a journey of just 15 mins, when i move it is an hour and 40 mins, and they are now a hell of a lot bigger than they were 10 months ago, so i dont think it would be either fair or safe to transport them in a crate, so any ideas on what is the safest and kindest way to transport them or better still if anyone knows how i can get hold of some 'swan bags' it would be brilliant
thanks in advance

a dog crate is fine for transporting geese, and we have sent ours on 6 hour trips without any problems. Just get a crate big enough for them to travel in together in pairs or if you only have a trio, then all 3 together. Put carpet in bottom & they wil be fine.

Hiya,

My Embdens were fine in a dog crate on a 3 hour journey.

Good luck

thank you, i only have the 2 and i have a crate big enough for the 2, i was worried that they might try to stretch their wings and i injure themselves whilst in a crate

Dont know how big your crate is, Tanya, but if you need to borrow any additional ones, PM me.

thanks Margot, ive just bought a new crate for willie to live in for the time being its large enough for a GSD so should be big enough for the geese, i never had a cat basket either so i had to buy a basket too, Barney my other cat will be going at the begining of October, and Willie will now be staying with me until I move the following month, as he needs the occassional bit of help to go to the toilet.
I may need extra crates though for the dogs, they normally travel doubled up but its a long journey for them to be doubled so i may need extra crates, ill let you know thank you again

What about making up some "swan bags"?  Cloth bags that you put them in with only their head sticking out the end.  You may even be able to borrow some from a local wildlife sanctuary.
