Topic Dog Boards / General / So Angry!!!
- By leomad Date 11.09.06 06:02 UTC
Yesterday I recieved a phone call from my Mum to say that my Dad had been attacked by a dog. My dad is going to be 80 this year, and all he was doing was walking across the field back from the shops, when this dog jumped on him. He has bite marks all on his arm. There was a man with the dog but they just walked off, im so upset and angry!!!

I am sorry to hear about your dad, and I hope he is ok. Its a real shock at that age. . On a practical note, make sure he is seen by a doctor, even if the skin is not broken. Also try to get someone to take digital photos of any marks and bruises as they progress. Lastly, ensure that the police are notified. This could have been even worse considering your fathers age, and these people need to be found.

I hope that your dad has reported the incident to the police, if he hasn't urge him to do so, I am thankful that he is ok, the owner is responsible and he and his dog need to be found before this happens again, to attack an 80 year old man is terrible, there is also the worry, what if it does this to a child, pregnant woman, well anyone really, is anyone safe from this dog and owner.

I hope that your dad has been to the hospital, doctor and has had his wounds catagorised big or small this will all be needed in evidence, if he hasn't talk him into doing so, your father may suffer mentally afterwards, so keep an eye on him he may say he is ok, but be badly affected by it.

My wishes go out to him and yourself and I hope that this person is caught.

I do hope your dad is OK, a bit worrying that the other person just walked off...

He must definitely go to the police and make a complaint; he must also go to his doctor for a witness to his injuries, and take photos of them for evidence. It's a very serious matter - I hope he's feeling less shocked by it now.

Thanks for all your kind comments. My Dad in ok, hes from the old school, stubborn as a mule  and wont do anything about it. I think its more because he dont want any hassle with neighbours and I think these people live close by. My Mum has been recieveing treatment for cancer, and hassle from neighbours is the last thing he wants. I had pleaded with him to go to the police but he wont go. BUT I live in the same street and im keeping an eye on the field, to see if they come back and I will deal with him!!!.
Apparently he was coming over the field with shopping and the dog went for his trousers and shopping bag, he put his hand down to move the dog and it turned on him. The man got his dog and walked off!!!.......Unbelieveable!!. As the saying goes "Every dog has its day"

I do hope your father is ok. I do think that you should report it yourself. At least that way the police are made aware of what has happened just in case it happens again to either yor family or some one else. Bad enough being your father but it could be a child next. Don't try and do anything yourself you could get hurt. I had the same thing a few years ago and the police were told and they gave the person a warning when they caught up with them. Also contact the council and they will hopefully send a dog warden round to look around the field at different times.

Hi Helen,

so sorry about your Dad - neither you nor he needed this with worrying about your Mum just now too :( :( :(

Like the others I do think it should be reported but can understand why he'd rather not - just don't get yourself into a fix here with some of the pond life about

{{{hugs}}} and healing thoughts,

Teri xxx

I can't believe anyone would just walk away that is plain nasty

I honestly don't know what to say,  I cannot believe that somebody would walk away from something like this, at the very least, that person should not be owning dogs.

I truly hope that your Dad is ok.

Take care
