Hi guys

I have been bought a tomtom one from a friend.  I was wondering if anyone had one?

1) can you get it to tell you about road works, traffic jams etc
2) I live on an estate which has been built for 5 years however my street is not on it... can you update the maps or not?
3) Does it tell you where the speed cameras are because i went past a few today and nothing happend lol

Hope someone can help, I think its a fantastic tool but did about 5 journeys so far and each time it has took me the long way round lol:confused:

Hi :)
I have a tomtom - called Lulu :P - can't remember which one tho but:
No, she doesn't tell you about roadworks, traffic jams
Again, doesn't know about any new roads or roundabouts even tho they have been there for years
No, can't detect speed camers either
And yes, she can take you the long way round

The amount of times I've argued with her :P

She's confined to the desk drawer now :D

Snap DEE - I have Tomtom Go as well and mine is called Jane - and we too have been known to have the odd squabble.

MM - thanks for the link will see if we can get updated too - been meaning to do it for ages.  If you do hit roadworks you can ask to be diverted but no good if you are stuck on a motorway with no exit.

I could not be without it now though as my geographic knowledge is ZERO!! ;)

We have a TomTom Go and despite the odd problem, it's been very useful. We often lend it to family members if they are going on a trip somewhere. As with most things (including husbands), they do require a modicum of intelligence and common sense to operate and can never be relied on to be 100% reliable :D :D

:D :D @ Daisy ;)

Rachel, I have been known to tell her to 'shut up' when she insists I've missed my turning and she keeps telling me to turn round at the next available juntion! This happened twice on holiday last year, thing was there was no turning cos the road was blocked off and going round in circles wasn't getting me anywhere! So I switched her off and reverted to the good old fashioned way of getting lost - the road map !  :P

Oh yes the good ole "turn around if possible" or "make a u-turn" when driving on a motorway and it's a new bit that she doesn't know about!  As Daisy said not 100% all the time!

But the good thing is that you can ignore her and drive in the direction that you think is right and she will (despite being snubbed and unlike OH) readjust and continue to point you in the right direction :D

ah, but I can only ignore her for so long, then she does my head in  though I do like it when she readjusts like you say. I stick my tongue in my cheek and say 'ner, told ya I was going the right way' :P :P

well, it breaks up the boredom if your'e on your own :P

I have a TomTom Go named Lori. go figure The news about traffic, road works and speed cameras are a service you can subscribe to. You need to have a phone that connects to the internet though. Look for the model number on the bottom of the device. It will be something like 500, 710 or if you're lucky 900. Mine is only the 700. It's great and even though it makes the odd mistake hear and there it hasn't failed me yet.

I have a tom tom 500 and was wondering if anyone knew how to get it to avoid certain roads which are too narrow for a caravan. Cant seem to find anything to tell it i'm towing and it tries to send me down the narrow lanes not even fit for a car at times nevermind a large caravan  oh and i actually talk back to mine especially when it tells me wrong - but its very quick to recalculate a new route once i've sworn a few times :D
