Topic Dog Boards / Showing / richmond - unentered dogs ?
- By ClaireyS Date 09.09.06 15:48 UTC
I was reading the small print that came with my richmond passes and its says " under no cirumstances should dogs be left unattended in cars" and a "zero tolerance policy will be operated".  Now I have 3 unentered dogs which is going to be pricey to put in the unentered dogs tent (do you think if I put the spaniels on a bench together they will just charge me for the one bench ? ) I was just wondering how strict this is, usually its just dogs in distress you get into trouble for.  how much trouble would I be in for leaving the dogs in the car (with shade, boot open etc) as I usually do ?  I dont want to leave them at home because we usually stop of somewhere nice like frensham ponds for a walk on the way back.

A lot of trouble dogs should not be leftr in cars full stop and if the weather is anyting like it is here at the momnt it will be in the 70's tomorrow.  Leave your dogs at home or don't go at all is all that I can say!
- By bazb [gb] Date 09.09.06 16:45 UTC
you wont or shouldnt be able to take yr unentered dogs into the show itself. The weather is warm, inside the car will be even warmer - dogs should not be left in cars when it is hot - full stop period. Dont know if they have unentered facilities, you could have entered them nfc - leave them at home and if you cant do that stay home yrself - not worth risking they cme to harm just for a piece of card

thanks guys, I didnt ask to be attacked, it was a simple question.  I do understand about dogs being left in cars, but with sun sheet on and boot / windows open they are usually ok and I do check on them, im not irresponsible.  Im only going to do my class so will be done by lunchtime, there is unentered facilities I was just wondering on the "zero tollerance thing" not saying its a bad thing but some of us are responsible.  And I would never risk my dogs for "a piece of card" but thanks for your helpful comments.  And I couldnt have entered them all as NFC because 2 are x-breeds and not on the activites register.

Whatever you do, don't leave them in the car, even with the sun sheet on and all the rest of it. It's simply too dangerous, and you'd never forgive yourself if anything happened to them, either through heat or someone tampering with them through the open boot or windows. If there's an unentered tent, put them there. If there isn't, leave them at home. It's the only safe thing to do.

You say we, couldnt whoever you were going with look after them while you are entered???

Im not going with anyone, I think I will just leave the spaniels at home and put Fagan in the unentered dogs tent.  I know it can get hot in the car, depending on where you park, (and depending on the sun moving) ive been at a companion show all day today with the car covered over and the dogs were cooler in the car than outside.  I wont risk getting into trouble with the KC and I certainly wouldnt risk my dogs lives.

Thanks for your input :)

Just for future reference. You can still enter cross breeds NFC, with unknown Date of birth and unknown parentage and using their pet name only. They don't need to be on the activities register, because they will not be competing in anything, just attending. :)

If you do that you will be in breach of the KC rules as even NFC dogs have to be KC registered
- By Dawn-R Date 09.09.06 19:08 UTC
Well I'm shocked. So the Kennel Club are happy for you to leave mongrels and cross breeds in the car because they are not registered. I find that difficult to reconcile. Moonmaiden, can you direct me to a link on the KC site about NFC entries.

If I had money to burn, I would dare to try and enter an imaginary mongrel at a Champ show just to see what happened. It's not as if registration numbers are required on entry forms.

It's all part & parcel of the R&R for shows. The entry form says it all the details entered must be exactly as recorded on the registration certificate if the dog isn't registered you cannot comply with this rule & therefore are breaking the KC rules & stand to be fined etc for incorrect information.

Why not jut KC activity reg them(only costs £12)then they can be correctly entered BTW one of the online entry systems needs KC reg numbers as do all obedience shows & only dogs in the process of being registered are exempted(on the online site you still have to enter a KC number even if you have enetered the NAF bit)

If you think about it entries at shows are restricted to KC reg & dogs with ATCNos

Haven't got a either of my copies of the yearbook to hand(lol I've just gone wireless so I'm not in the sameroom as my show stuff)but I'll post the R&R ref when I have a minute

I'm sure that most of us have more dogs than the ones that we show and I have no problems leaving my other dogs at home for a few hours once in a blue moon it doesn't harm them?

I think that it is a shame though that you have to pay the same for a NFC dog as ones that you are entering it would be better if it was say half the price and then you could bring your dogs from home.

I wasn't attacking you just a pure and simple reply
- By ClaireyS Date 10.09.06 14:22 UTC
sorry bit hung over yesterday, feeling a bit paranoid

Thanks though guys, glad I didnt take them - it turned out REALLY hot, obviously if I had have taken them then I would have put them straight in the unentered dogs tent, there was no way any dogs should have been left in cars today.  But of course there were the same announcements all day, they were actually stating the breeds involved this time and telling people that security persons were waiting at their car   Apparantly despite the zero tollerance dogs in cars thing there were still over 30 cars by 10am with dogs in them

I agree about the NFC charge, at our club shows its only £5. I usually do enter Fagan NFC if its a week day show but my parents usually have him weekends but they are on holiday and I have my friends two so didnt want to pay out for them all in the unentered dogs tent.  As it happens they were fine at home - I just felt guilty

I have a tailguard that allows me to leave the boot door open when the dogs are inside, and blinds on all the windows but I would NEVER leave the dogs in the car when I couldn't watch them all/most of the time. It's different at an open show where you can stay by your car apart from when you're actually in the ring. But at a large champ show where you may have to park some distance from the entry gate, and then your ring could be some distance from that, it's simply not worth considering no matter what the weather is. I would be concerned that somebaody could slam the tailgate shut, feed them something through the wire etc. Lets face it these days you just cant say what sort of person is walking through the car park.
- By ClaireyS Date 10.09.06 15:22 UTC
I noticed some people today had left their dogs tied up to their cars in the shade - and gone into the show leaving them
- By ice_queen Date 10.09.06 17:24 UTC
I once saw a kid push down our tailgate when it had been left open with the dogs in at an open show.  wasn't hot weather put it would get warm in the car with no ventilation.  Good job I saw and so got it open but if that was a champshow... :(
- By Fillis Date 10.09.06 20:40 UTC
Surely if it is not too expensive to enter a dog in the show, the £5 per dog in the unentered dogs tent is not too expensive??? And the money goes to a charity.
- By sarahl [gb] Date 11.09.06 11:44 UTC
I left our tailgate open once at an agility show and to my horror got back to the car to find the wind had blown it shut.  Fortunately I hadn't been gone long but it was still getting hot in the car.  From then on, I always use a vent lock and lock the cage door.
- By JaneG [gb] Date 11.09.06 16:24 UTC
The ventlocks do look really good, I wish they made a longer one though that allows your door to stay right up for maximum airflow. I improvised with my transit and a brush handle :D
