Topic Other Boards / Foo / security alerts on pc

Today I've been getting security alerts on my pc   mainly about virus and hijackers, trojans that sort of thing.  so far I've used my anti virus software, adware and checked the firewall on the computer and checked aol security.  Nothing is showing up on my machine

Every alert is different but comes under the same 'security alert' or 'critical system warning' message.  But they are all about different hijackers, trojans and virus'  conveniently I can click on the ballon or pop-up to download the appropriate protection

So am I infected (or rather my machine ;) ) or will I be infected by downloading the solution

Anybody ever had this??  HELP!!!!!!!!!!

Edited to make sense

I've had them sometimes, not recently though. I just immediately come out of the site I am viewing and disconnect for a while :) I've had a 'icon' appear on my desktop when I was on dial up, don't know how it got there or what site I was on when it happened but all I know is my phone bill was over £300 because of this :(  I also had one that told me I was being 'hacked' and to immediately download. I didn't. I just disconnected instead as I couldn't get out of it.
Definately don't download anything that 'pops up',
I don't get pop ups since I've been on broadband, and installed a good pop up blocker and virus detector :)
If you've got up to date protection I shouldn't worry too much about them, they are there to scare you into downloading, probably a virus or something

I had a problem with these too, i upgraded my antivirus from blueyonder and then realised that these pop ups were just advertisments, they are meant to draw you in and make you panic into downloading THEIR software for a trial run and then sting you for the full cost 30 or 90 days after.

On my updated antivirus there is an additional ad-blocker and this has done the trick.

From Blueyonder its costs me 4 pounds a month and automatically updates itself to keep up with new viruses etc. IMO well worth the money.

hope this helps.

Hiya...its always well worth the money to have really good protection on your pc.

Kaspersky do a free online virus scanner & file scanner....here

http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner

If you wish to purchase there full internet security suite ..i think its about £40 a year but imo...well worth it (the cost goes down 10% a year as well)

These darn things are appearing even when I'm not online and before I get online   I thought I'd got rid of them GRRRR

I've got good anti virus, firewall, adaware etc, but not a happy bunny at the mo :(

Can certanly vouch for Kasperky Internet Suite - combines everything, is easy to use and the back up by email or phone is brilliant!
I also have Spywaredoctor which blocks cookies etc and stops me going on any site with suspicious content.

Trend Micro also have an excellent online free scanner: 'housecall', and another is Bitdefender. Amazingly, every scanner seems to be able to pick up slightly different nasties!

one of the pop-ups was for SPYWAREDOCTOR :(

Not to worry, I've sorted it now - a visit to the SWI forums and all is well :)  I can't believe I forgot about them, DOH!

I've now added SPYBOT to my defenses, didn't before because it seemed so complicated to use and asked questions I couldn't have answered   either I've got more knowledgeable, or more likely, it's been made easier for numptys like me to use :)

peace reigns again :)
