Can anyone confirm weather there is such a breed as an american bull terrier and are they legal in this country? I always get mixed up with english american bully staffy and pitbull breeds as there are so many different names, i know some are not pure bred dogs with the mixed up names but not sure which ones are which.

Correct, and neither Am Bulldogs nor Am Staffs are KC recognised.

American Staffordshire Bull Terrier is an American Kennel Club recognized breed & legal in the UK

American Bulldog is an United Kennel Club recognized breed & legal in the UK

However as the DDA includes "dogs of the Pit Bull Terrier type both of these breeds could be siezed under this part of the law & as there is a very grey area as to Pit Bull type|(these is based on a police/RSPCA"expert's"opinion so it is not subjective)they could be decsribed as such. Even a KC registered SBT was seized as being of the PBT type & destroyed I would advise people against owning one in the UK

So can i assume the american bull terrier doesn't exist, the picture of the dog looked something like a cross between a staffordshire bull terrier and a pitbull, as the legs were quite short. I have the link if anyone would like to pm me and shed some light.

American Bull Terriers as such don't exist unless someone is using the name to cover up the dogs real breed or lack of breed

In the US & the Uk the Bull Terrier is never described as american

The advert titles american bull terrier, then further down says american staffordshire bitch so that sounds about right. This caught my attention as the bitch is actually having puppies.
