Does anyone know of anything I can use to help my 5 month old GR with his teething ?

He has had quite a bit of trouble with them which I wasn't expecting because my last GR had no problems at all.  His gums tend to bleed when the teeth start to come through; at the moment he has one very wobbly tooth at the top right near the front (not sure what the name of that one is) and his gum is swollen, he is very restless and didn't bother to eat his breakfast this morning which is a first for him, although he has just had some yoghurt for lunch.

Is there anything out there that I can use to help him with the discomfort?  I've given him ice cubes, and a frozen tea towel to chew on this morning, and in the past used bonjela but I'm not sure if this went in the right place or wether he just swallowed it

I've realised this is the time when he starts to bite at my wrists and ankles too - poor little man is not very happy at the moment!

chilled or even frozen raw chicken wings would help - somethings safe, tasty and effective to work on :)

As well as the frozen tea towel, you could also try some Chamomilla - available as granules or in liquid form from chemists / pharmacies selling homeopathic remedies.  It's very effective for babies gums too :)

Thanks Teri, we do feed him raw but I hadn't realised he could eat frozen wings.   I've just googled chamomilla and seen that Weleda do a teething granule formula so I'll try and get hold of that today!

i used Ashton and Pearsons Baby Teething Powders, worked well and is available from most chemists.

I'd also like to add, it's perfectly normal for dogs to go off their food when they're teething. Even if it's straightforward and problem free. I find it tends to happen in two sections, the first time when their incisors and molars are coming through. Then they seem okay for about a week, then they go off their food again when the canines start to come through.
