hi everyone
I currently live in Belgium with my husband and dog. We rescued her from a family who were moving to a small apartment and in turn they'd gotten her from a dog rescue centre in Brussels. We were told that she was a Rotweiller x American Stafford. Perhaps I was a little naive but I did not have any idea that an American Stafford falls under the generic term pitbull. To me, she looks like a lab (dark all over and weighs 31 kilo's (4.5 stone?). She had been tattooed and sterilised when I got her as her previous owners were planning to take her back to the States before a change of plan.
I have now decided to leave my partner and return to the UK, so this morning I took her to the vets to get chipped and get her rabies up to date when the vet said she'd have to put her down as Rotweiller (won't pass in a million for that!) because she wouldn't get in the UK being a pitbull. She has this wide jaw-bone I suppose but I've been looking at various web-sites and I wouldn't know if she looked more like a (british) staffie than an American. I really don't know what to do now. I never considered until about 2 hours ago that I might own a "dangerous" dog... I'm very confused as she was a rescue dog and quite frankly could be *anything*.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi there
Ive got an Irish staffordshire bullterrier at the moment. Also had APBTs in the past. I have met vets, policemen, members of the public, and RSPCA members who dont know what either of these breeds look like. Go to another vet tell him its a lab x. If it looks a bit bullish tell him its a Lab x staff. If the rotty shows in the dog say its a rotty x lab or rotty x staff. Get a new set of jabs and bring it home. Do not worry about a dangerous dog, if it was dangerous you would know by now. I read apost on another board that said "What dog is the most dangerous?. The most dangerous dog is the dog owned by the most irresponsible owner.
Wishing you the best Mick.
P.S. Let us all know how you get on.
