Topic Dog Boards / Behaviour / dog seeming different

Hi,

I have just been speaking with a friend and they have asked me if I know why their dogs behaviour would have changed.

They went on holiday recently & the dog was in kennels & they now tell me that he doesn't seem to have any energy & just lies there & sleeps.

I know this isn't much info but is it connected to them having been away without him?

Can't see why a dog would have no energy just because his owners have been away - I would take him to the vet for a check-up.  If I came back to find my dog like that, I would definitely think there was something physically wrong somewhere.

How long has he been home. It could just be that they weren't feeding him a very high quality diet and giving him lots of carbohydrate to fill him up.

I think he has been home nearly two weeks now.

Oh my goodness:eek: if this has been going on for two weeks, tell them to get him to the vet, he obviously is not well, ask their vet to give him a very through check up, there is something wrong for him to be tired and lethargice since coming home all this time.

Dogs soon forget that they have been away and have no concept of time and are back into their own routines very quickly. If nothing can be found wrong medically, do not send him to the same kennels again. Their dog would not be pining once home or sulking because they left him, it is something else.

Lethargy can be one of the symptoms of thyroid trouble.
Make sure that they ask their vet to check for thyroid troubles too.
It can be tested for via a blood test.

A friends Boxer was borderline hypo-thyroid until he was attacked in his kennel
by another dog. The stress of the attack was enough to tip him over into hypothyroidism.

sincerely hope that he's better soon
