excuse the spelling  :)
i currently have 2 7 week old litters of rabbits, this morning i took both litters away from their mums and put the babies in the run as it was nice this morning, when putting the babies back into their hutch i noticed that one had slightly swollen weeping eyes, and then this afternoon the rabbit in question head/face is swollen. ive never had a rabbit with myxi before only seen it in wild rabbits just before the dogs have dispatched it, my question is, is this myxmotasis? im going to take it to the vets tomorrow pm for a check up anyway but advice in the meantime would be great
thanks

doesnt look like the pic but that is how i have always seen myxi, unfortunatley i cannot isolate the bunny, if the dogs werent so intent on eating the rabbits i would bring it indoors to keep it separate from the others, i only have the one spare hutch and i have put one of the mums in it and all the babies are in the big hutch together, they had already been in the run together before i had noticed :( so it looks as if i will need to get all 11 rabbits checked out (thats inc mums dad was eaten by a fox :( )

Can you put the bunny in a box safely in your bedroom away from the dogs?

Have you got a dog crate.
My rabbits live in a huge dog crate in my hall way!!!!
Lea :)

have borrowed cat carrier and putting bunny in bathroom away from dogs fingers crossed that it isnt myxi, but we are in a high risk area :(

Good, pleased you have seperated it.
Hopefully it is just an allergy.
If you go to the vets talk to them about Myxi jabs, although for that many rabbits it will be very expensive :(
Lea
they're all due to go in the next week or two as well :( 11 rabbits are eating me out of house and home and cost more to feed than the dogs

but then i knew all that at the time just never expected such large litters one had 7 babies

1 died at a few days old it was half the size of the others, and one fell out of the hutch a few weeks ago and got away only to be eaten by Willie a few days later, but still with her losing 2 it is still a large litter

i would have thought that it was a bit irresponsible to take a suspect myxy to a vets!!! Surely better to get the vet out to you for reasons of infection of other clients rabbits?

How did you get on?????
And no it isnt irresponsible, as you take rabbits in in containers so they are not having contact with other animals.
If it was then the vet would tell you to leave the rabbit in the car until you are called, which I have done with various animals over the years 'just in case'
Lea :)
unfortunely Baby Rabbit (as he was registered at the vets :D) went down hill rapidly during the day, the vet offered treatment but as the chances of survival arent good as he wasnt yet vaccinated i said it wouldnt be fair so asked for him to be PTS, :( i have to keep a very close eye on the others as they can start showing symptoms within 2 days and will go downhill very very quickly. Unfortunely the vet did say that just last week a lady lost all 6 of her rabbits one after the other :(
The vets were aware of what was coming in and had they had any other rabbits in would have asked me to wait in the side room, if i had had a car i would have waited in the car, but as i never had a car i walked and as there werent any other rabbits i waited in the waiting room, Baby Rabbit was in a closed box and as he was so ill i never allowed anyone to touch him. But if more than one of the rabbit were showing symptoms of myxi i would have called the vet out rather than going to the vet.
while i was there i saw Willie as he was bought into me the nurse was very pleased as his blanket had a wet patch but he hadnt knocked his water over so fingers crossed he is going to start going to the toilet on his own i have said even if he is incontinent i dont mind as long as he comes home

I am so sorry Tanya. :( :(
If any have the slightest hint of it, remove them straight away, even if you end up with loads of boxes in bathroom. That way you should minimise the risk.
Have you cleaned and disenfected the hutches out???
Did you ask about the myxi Jab???? I know it probably isnt managable as I think last time I looked it was £25ish per rabbit and I think it is done every 6 months :(
I am so sorry again, I know what it is like to lose a rabbit through Myxi.
RIP Baby rabbit

I know it's bolting the stable door but would it have given cover to all the babies if the mothers had been vaccinated, at least until they were all seperated and went to their new homes anyway.
the mums are vaccinated against VHD and myxi, babies are only just old enough to have the jab, but they were leaving this week, they now have to stay until given the all clear.
All others are bright and running around tonight so fingers crossed it was just the one, the hutches that the rabbit had been in have been disinfected, i cleaned and disinfected yesturday so the hutch with his mum in, so that is fine but had to do the hutch with babies when i got back from the vets.

Sorry I hope I havnt come across as preaching. I was thinking out loud of all the things to prevent the other getting it.
Hopefully the rest will be fine. How long before they are given the all clear???
Lea :)
Sorry you didnt come across as preaching, but re-reading my post makes me look all defensive  the vet said 2 days is when they can start showing signs, but im at the vets again on friday with Daisy for her checkup and im seeing my regular vet (he is allergic to rabbits so couldnt see me today) so ill ask then on how long before the all clear, i did ask but what with everything ive forgotten what she said

Keep us posted on what happens please.
You really are going through it at the moment,
I dont think of myxi, but my rabbits live indoors. Although it can be carried by fleas and brought into the house that way so it is not that safe indoors either.
You have done all the right things, now its a case of keep your fingers crossed, thats all you can do.
{{{{{{{{{{{{{{Tanya}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}} I think you need it!
Lea :)
