Topic Dog Boards / Behaviour / Inappropriate Play - do your dogs do this?

Hi

As some of you might remember I am new to being a dog owner.   I have now had my 4 year old rescued puli for two months and have learnt a lot.  However, one of the actions that he displays that I thought was a sign of aggression I am being reassured is not aggressive but 'inappropriate play behaviour' that does obviously need to be addressed. If we have somebody new (to him not us) come to visit and we have got past the introduction stage and all sat down he will suddenly without warning 'pounce' at their trouser bottom/shoes - no aggression displayed !  This has happened three times in all (not including my post about the washing machine man - that was different)! We have some thoughts on what we will do - the last time he did it was in the presence of a dog trainer we had consulted who told him off in no uncertain terms!  I just wondered if any of you have seen this kind of behaviour in your dogs and what ideas you might have.  Our strategy at the moment is to take away the toys that promote that kind of play and concentrate on tug toys, and after introductions have taken place crate him in the same room (this more in the case of visiting children) .  Any experiences you can share gratefully received,

thanks all,

Maxine

Not quite the same, but our older, rescue dog (had him 7 years) very occasionally, tries to bite visitors' shoes :confused: Unfortunately, as it happens rarely, it is difficult to anticipate, so have never had the opportunity to try to prevent it :)
