Hi i have a 3 year old female staff, a 10 month old female staff and a 2 year old male staff, my girl had a litter of pups couple of months ago, she always got on fine with my male until she was pregnant she attacked him quite bad, my vet put it down to hormones and told me to keep them seperate when i was not around and when i was to watch them, si i did that but every time he went near her she would go for him so i kept them apart completly, after the pups were born we had her spayed hoping this would help but it has not seemed to, she still curls her lip at him and snaps if he gets close to her, a friend of mine has suggested rehoming her with some one who has no other animals, She also growls at my pup but has never actually gone for her.
I do not know what to do, my kids get quite upset when they hear her growl also, i dont know what to do, i love my girl with all my heart but i dont want my other 2 to be fearfull of her, and when we walk the dogs i cant take them together i have to walk my boy and pup then come back and walk my other girl. Will she ever get over this aggression in time or will she need rehoming.
Also we went to puppy classes when she was a pup and has always been very well socalised. And we have tried retraining but nothing works.
Any help would be great.

As you have quite a little pack there, she wants to be alpha female. She's about the right age for 'taking over'. Also, in the wild only the alpha female is allowed to breed, so her having puppies has re-inforced her belief that she should be in charge.Unfortunately, spaying can often have the opposite effect to that which is hoped for. An unspayed bitch produces both oestrogen and a small amount of testosterone, by spaying her and eliminating the oestrogen production, the testosterone then takes over, (this is why you should NEVER argue with a menopausal woman). Provided your other dogs accept her authority, things should settle down after a while. Having puppies and being spayed all in the space of a couple of months must have caused a tremendous hormonal upheaval.You will have to keep them all under close supervision and monitor the situation carefully. Provided it's only lip curling and growling, don't tell her off. The sooner she establishes her position, the sooner things will settle down.

Perhaps it can have the opposite effect but in my experience spaying helped stop stroppiness with the other, already spayed, bitch in the house.

Yes, if you've got more than 1 bitch, spaying them is a good idea, and once pepsi's bitch has stopped producing oestrogen, it will help to modify her alpha female aspirations, but this can take several months.

On two occasions I have had bitches getting a LOT more aggressive towards others after being spayed.

i hope i have not made things worse i was only going by the advice of my vet and a friend who has been breeding for years, we are starting training classes again next week i hope it works.
