It's all about training and practise I'm afraid. I used to take mine to the park where there were dogs running off lead and lots of smells to train. You can try really tasty titbits but imo dogs don't move to their best with them as they tend to crab towards you. Practise, practise and more practise :D

Have the same problem with my young dog Welshie. On the move im very firm, I get his head up before we start to move and have a tight lead to keep it there - even still he can sometimes be a bit out of control. Standing, well a lot depends on the breed, luckily mine is a breed where you hold the head so its a bit easier, although I do whisper a mix of lovely words and threats in his ear - along the lines of just do this for me for 2 minutes! Best of luck - they do get better, and although you think you are the only one having such problems it turns out everyome in yr breed will be in the same boat.

Same here with my dog as well, his nose is constantly to the ground. Also (as in WKC) if he gets a scent out of the ring thats the only place he wants to be.
I can get him to stand though and he's good when doing that.
I don't like using treats in my hand when showing but i do somtimes hold a treat before we go in the ring and then the smell is there on my lead hand, sometimes he will hold his head up at that :-)
trouble with my young lad is he,s not the world,s best eater he,s the only dog i,ve had where FOOD is not one of his top priorities ,.Now birds{as in the feathered kind ,and bitches, and lakes rivers/ ponds are

My idot completely showed me up at the club show a couple of months ago, quite frankly I have only ever seen him act like that when my bitch was red hot in season, so I think someone was there who shouldn't have been....
