Short of putting the kitchen bin in a cupboard does anyone know where I can buy a lockable / dog-proof bin?

At great expence we bought a 'simple human' bin, its worked a treat for us, but would suggest you evaluate for your dog, B&Q have them but almost £50.......

when you say simple how does it work? my dog is constantly with her head in the bin!

Mine is in a cupboard with the door tied shut

As of this moment, the only bin that is safe in our household is the Wheely Bin - because it is (1) too big for even Beau to jump up to and nudge the lid open and (2) the fact it is on 4 wheels/feet and lives in a nice little compound just big enough for it :) has made it impossible - so far - for the whole pack to barge into and knock over.
However, as Nik's "baby" - little Missy - who is nearing her first birthday - can now put her paws on his shoulders (and he stands 6ft 1in) - I can see that sooner or later she will be able to get into it.........:(

Mine is in the front hall behind a baby gate :) I can trust all of them except one not to bin raid, but the one is mustard! The cats are fed there as well or they'd never get any food before raiding dogs finished it off.

Put 'simple human bin' into Google and you'll get their website showing details of the bins, and also results with retailers. They look very good.
I use two swing bins with liners but without the lids inside the cupboards under the sinks. The only other occupants of the cupboards are bottles of cleaning stuff, so don't worry about the bins being in the cupboards - anything smelly goes straight out to the wheelie bin.
Meg stays out of the bins ,shes too good to do anything like that :d
. but ebonys a little b***er wen theres a binbag tied up within reach coz shes a greedy moo and rips it open for any food we might have thrown away.luckily for us she hasnt figurerd out the binbag was once in the bin lol :)
i had a lockable bin, bruce unlocked it so it is now under the sink in the cupboard

Nips seems to have realised that the bin is too large a challenge to take on but then he's only a Small Dog. When I had larger canine bin raiders I found the only solution was to put the bin behind closed doors and lock it with one of those things that are supposed to keep children out of kitchen cupboards.

Oh well! At least I'm not the only one with a bin raider - behind closed doors it will stay.

I am really lucky Skye hasnt touched the bin since we got her, Abby was a completely different matter by 5 mths she had worked out that if she put her foot on the pedal the lid opened and she could get to all the treats that her bad mummy wouldnt give her:rolleyes: not a good thing when your dog is allergic to nearly everything.

I have a 5 month old staff and a 50L touch top Brabantia bin, she has worked out how to get the lid open and Im assuming she jumps in (as Ive never been able to actually catch her doing it) and pulls everything back out with her! I was thinking of getting a pedal bin but have now read that they are not very pet friendly either. I know a swing bin wont help and i have no cupboard space to put a bin in, also as they are way too small for the amount of rubbish my household accumulates!! I've also googled 'Simple Human Bin' but they havent actually got much on there that would help me!! I'm at my wits end and dont know what else to do?? Please help???

I use a large container that is supposed to be for keeping dry dog food in (from pets at home) and it clicks shut. It i supposed to keep dogs out of thier food but as I feed raw now I figured it would do as a good bin....... so far so good!! :-)

The simple human lockable bin gets great reviews from dog owners on
here. I may just have to buy one as I have a bin raider too!!
Thanku so much for ur replies, I have searched and searched and have finally found the lock lid bin that so many ppl seem to say about, fingers crossed that it works for me!!! Thanku again!!

I found a cheap one at Tesco that has a push button opener. It certainly stopped mine and was really cheap.

As my puppy from hell can open any bin, we have solved the problem by clipping a bungee strap over the top whenever we go out...the wrath of God falls upon the one that forgets!!! and the job of collecting all the rubish strewn from kitchen to conservatory and all up the hallway!! Luckily she just empties it and does not eat the contents, at least these days with all the re-cycling we do there is never any food in there. She has yet to figure out that if she tips it over the lid and bungee will come of as one!!! ;) ;) I think she just tries to pop it open (It is one of the touch open jobbies) and if it does not work she turns her attention to the collection of cardboard boxes we collect on the side for burning in the fire...and reduces them to managable sized pieces ideal for burning...good puppy!! :) :)
Aileen and the girlies.

For larger quantities the stainless steel feed bins used by stables would be good, vermin proof but downside is where to house it.

I gave up with bins after trying to thwart cats and dogs and now use a sainsburys carrier hung out of reach and then put it straight in the wheely bin outside when full. Generally works very well unless someone stretches up for a particularly tasty morsel of rubbish and can get a nose in !
