I have been training with my staff since day 1 and done all i have been told with regards to this problem but its so hard when you ask a stranger to ignore her if she jumps as they take no notice and fuss her anyway how can i stop this frustrating behaviour

It's a difficult one but I think you have to be firmly polite and tell people that you are training her not to jump up and you'd like their help in not encouraging her.

If the person was choosing to ignore my request then I would promptly walk off whether they were talking or not! They have been asked and explained as to why you want them to ignore her and if they can't then just walk on! This type of person only causes more problems when you are training and it is so hard when they are bouncy happy friendly puppies!!

I'm with you there, Emz! If people really haven't got the good manners to listen to a reasonable request then I'd remove myself and the dog from the situation. Before we made off I'd probably say that it was impossible to stop and talk while the dog was jumping up which is why I'd asked for their help in stopping the habit.

is this on the lead or off...not sure how old your staffi is...
if on the lead when a person approaches calmly ask your dog to sit then allow the person to make a fuss of the dog although it calmly down at the dog's level with you close by....my resuced staff was a bit the same when we got him no manners would launch himself to say hello..we asked for the sit and ignored him until he was quiet...persevere it will work.
if off the lead again call the dog to you and ask for sit...
you need to be one step ahead all the time..
best of luck staffs are great aren't they...love em.........
