Google Advertising Help

:)

I use Google Adwords to promote my company. You can specify the maximum amount of money you want to pay as well as what you want to bid per click. So you can say you only want to spend £5 a day for example. When you've reached 5 pounds your ad will not be shown anymore. You don't always end up paying your bid price either, sometimes it's less.

I can't tell you about Yahoo as Google was providing about 70% of all our traffic before the campaign so I only went with them as a trial.

Thank you for your reply. So how much is it per click.

That depends on the keyword or site. For example, I want my ad to come up when someone searches for pathology and micrometastases. Pathology is a very common term so I have to bid high to get my ad shown as lots of other companies want to advertise under that word too. So I put in say 0.55p for that. Not many people want to advertise on searches for micrometastases (can't spell it for one thing! ;-) ) so I can bid low for that, say 0.17p. The tools they have will tell you what position on the page your bid will produce, how many viewings and potential clicks you can expect etc. By limiting your daily max you can try it out without incurring too much cost.

I never knew that, i always thought when a search came up the first one was the most popular, that more people had clicked on it thats why it was at the top. I never realised that they had paid the most that is why they were there, i shall make sure in future that i look threw them all.

That's the main search results in the middle of the page. You're right about them. Their position is influenced by a lot of different factors and you can't buy the top position for all the money in the world (unless it's in sponsored links). The advertising you pay for are the sponsored links on the side, and now the top of the page. When you said you wanted to advertise I assumed you meant the paid ads in the sponsored links. The main search results come from optimizing your website.
