I'm a moderator on our local "village" website - its a fairly quiet little site most of the time - except when we have "yoof" troubles - and in recent months, we have had plenty of this - and the perpetrators of anti-social behaviour have, from time to time, been named (names removed pdq) - or just identified (ie - "the fat kid who lives near Mill House").   Where we have felt it necessary, identities have been removed and names replaced with the generic term "little darlings!:rolleyes: !

Now, one of the "little darlings" has registered, and sent this message "by the way im da boi from ****** i sugest u take me off ur stupid
site or ur gona hear more from me" :rolleyes:

As I'm not at work at the moment (not to go back until next Monday), I wondered whether any of our legal experts could say whether this can be constituted as a threat or not????

This is what I've suggested we do ..... without acknowledging his message to him ;)   I've also suggested confronting his parents (who think the sun shines out of every orifice of his being:rolleyes: ) with this.........after all, if it has come from his computer (and the Board's Admin should be able to verify this point) ....there is evidential proof of his behaviour........;)

You could try contacting his ISP and report his threatening message.  They quite often take a dim view of threatening / abusive behavior and revoke accounts.

Not sure the police would be that interested unless he has "previous" with them.

He has not threatened actual harm though. His message could be interpreted as meaning he would be seeking legal action.  I would just delete it and ignore the "little darling" :)

I agree with Isabel.  Parents of young darlings like this often get very defensive of their dear offspring and leap to protect them regardless of evidence.  If his name is or has been on the website then he is entitled to make sure you 'hear from him again' - although perhaps in writing rather than physically or verbally!

I would also ask members to be careful how they word things and people. 2 strikes and they are barred ;-)

I'm inclined to agree with Isabel, I think we can all perceive what he does actually mean, and that it is actually a threat and taken as such, but the wording would not be constituted as a threat and I doubt the police would be able to do anything, he very cleverly or just coincidently has said or ur gona hear more from me" emphasis on the word hear which any good solicitor would say means write more.

Leave it for now, as with all said and done he is only doing what many of us would do if we were being written about on a website (deservedly or not) and asking you to stop, which if questioned is exactly what he would say.

If he should write again with a different wording that the police can hold up as a threat by all means report him all guns blazing.

This is the point:  we have removed all identification as soon as it appears - and threatened posters with removal of posting privileges if they do persist in Naming Names ;) .

However, by implication, he KNOWS who he is ............ - descriptions of actions, etc ....... - but as he hasn't yet done anything (I'm expecting a large SPAM attack of the sort that CD has suffered in the past) .  I think we have to wait for something like this to happen before any action can be taken.  

Clearly you have done all that is reasonably possible, Margot so I would not worry about this particular threat and just carry on as you have been doing and hope that a sustained SPAM does not materialise :)

I agree with the others but wouldn't delete the message.  File it in case the little darling decides to go one step further.
