Hi All

I am getting another westie puppy in around 4 weeks time, my westie Hamish is fed on naturediet at the moment as he has got so many food allergies the only 1 he is allowed is the lamb and rice, as he is allergic to chicken. I am considering feeding the new pup naturediet, the breeder said that she will be feeding naturediet puppy with some proplan kibble mixed in, but that i can gradually change him over to whatever food i think is good. I just wondered what food you lot thought would be good to feed him, i have been advised that Nutro is a good food but am not convinced as to whether it is better than proplan.
I am concerned with feeding naturediet because of all the problems i have had getting Hamish his food as they are not very relaible and keep stopping production, i did speak to the lady at naturediet last week and she said that puppy should be back in production this week but its whether you can continue to get it once you have put him onto it.

Thanks in advance
Helen

I've lost confidence in Naturediet because of their quality control problems.  It's one thing to have so-called teething problems at their new factory, but it's another thing all together to distribute food which goes bad on the shelf.   I'm sure they removed most of the posts from their board by now, but there were many dogs who were made very ill be eating Naturediet that had gone off.

I had to take one of my dogs to my vet for a bad attack of diarhea.  I blamed it on switching to JWB to quickly from Naturediet, but perhaps it's not a coincidence that her problem came the day after finishing off the last bit of a Naturediet pack.  She's a terrible scavenger, so it could have been anything.   However, when I took her to the vet even he mentioned that he's seen dogs with diarhhea which they most likely picked up from eating Naturediet that had gone off.   (I never even mentioned my dog had been on Naturediet.)

Even in my local Pets at Home, the clerks said that they had packages of Naturediet exploding on their shelves.  They are still having major supply problems as well, for those who want to stick to Naturediet.

Previous to their problems, I thought Naturediet was great.  I still think the ingredients are great, but the company itself is not.

Nutro is a great food for puppies and is formulated for coat & skin conditions.

Hi Hamish,

Matures menu is a comparible food to nature diet and it's always easy to get hold of.  I prefer natures menu for my girl as nature diet has bone meal in it and she has raw bones as part of her diet, so it would be too much for her in that as well.  She absolutely loves it! You can get it from petsmart/city if you have one near you and a lot of smaller pet shops stock it now aswell.

I feed my 1 year old on JWB and the odd tin of tuna on top!  She has a sensitive tummy too (for a lab) and I did used to give her Nature Diet as well.  She used to have runny poos every 2 weeks or so.  She went off her Naure Diet so I just contunued with her kibble and shes doing much better - nice coat, no runny poos and is growing nicely.  I think its finding the right thing that suits your dog.  I am glad I dont have the worry of finding a store that has the Nature Diet in stock though.  She has the odd uncooked chicken wing as well, which she loves

Ummmm. what an extremely interesting subject!!  I posted on here a short time ago about my friends vet calling people for giving raw chicken as her dog had suffered diarrhoea and the vet without testing said it was salmonella due to the raw chicken.  Reading this makes me wonder whether it is actually nature diet that was the problem as this dog has had a funny stomach on quite a few occasions and I know that she feeds him this
