When a lot of puppies are brought home they very often will turn their noses up at their normal foods a lot of it is apprehension a lot of it trying it on and getting the owner to keep changing foods to appease their pup. Changing foods in itself will cause diarrhoea. You need to find a food and stick to it.

To be honest your vet is testing to see what is affecting him and you need to wait for those results.

But, all these, porridges, weetabix, rice puddings etc I have never given a pup or dog, I would think that they would give a dog with a weak stomach diarrhoea there is no need for these.

If you should give him something like scrambled egg always give with goats milk not cows milk, and blend in some complete soaked food to help bind.

A good complete food with fresh chicken and meats/ white fish or chicken with rice, (not pudding normal rice) is what is needed.

Although your vet thinks he may have an allergy to chicken I would think it is proberbly the complete food you are using in the chicken flavour which is the problem, not actually fresh chicken.

If the royal canine did not affect his tum at the breeders perhaps you should try this food again, just keep putting it down for your pup, take it away if he does not eat it and then put it back down again, when your pup is hungry he will eat it eventually.  If it has no side affects stick to it, and don't let your pup try to rule you at feeding times.

Have you also possibly thought of feeding him a BARF diet, fresh chicken wings, fresh mince, meats and tuna? This will build up his weight in no time, and may not cause him to have diarrhoea, it is going to be hit and miss for a while to find the right food for him, and hopefully your vet has checked him for any internal problems too.

I hope that it is sorted soon, a good natural diet is possible what is called for.

Hi Rach1968

Perhaps it would be best to rest your pup's tum for 24 hours and then give only a very bland diet until your test results are back.  It may just be the constant changing and add-ins to the diet which are upsetting his tummy and that being the case his digestive system needs time to heal and relax.

Personally I'd only give him white fish and mashed potato meantime, especially since chicken and rice have "?" over them.  A dog, even a very young and still growing one, can survive well enough on such a bland diet for a couple of weeks if necessary rather than take chances on adding anything to it which may cause his problems to flare up again.

HTH meantime.  Please update on results and what specific conditions have been tested for.
regards, Teri :)
