Topic Dog Boards / Showing / An early crufts query!
- By Vinnie [gb] Date 25.08.06 09:32 UTC
Hiya,

I know this is rather premature  but I was just sitting here wondering about the entry procedure for Crufts. Is a schedule available and you fill in an entry form as with other champ shows? or is entry on line? How far in advance of the show is the entry closing date normally? I am very excited to have qualified my pup (several times over infact! :)) so just thought I'd ask so I know what to expect nearer the time!

Thanks,

Vin

p.s. TFI Friday!

The schedules come out roughly October time, you can enter on-line.
You will need to send for a schedule if youve not entered before.

The closing date is Jan 7.

Well done with your pup, enjoy the day and above all relax:cool:

My girl qualified yesterday by winning a green star major, is there a different procedure for entering a dog from overseas, i heard that i'd have to apply for an 'authority to compete' from the UK Kennel Club(she is already registered with them).

If your bitch is KC registered then she doesn't need an ATC You just need to enter the qualification info on the entry form(I think)
From the KC Crufts qualifying info page
(3) If it has been awarded a 5-point or higher Green Star at a Show held under the Rules and Regulations of the Irish Kennel Club.

It has a schedule like a normal show - the only difference being is that you have to detail where you qualified - show and class if I remember correctedly!

Think we entered in January - but I could be completely wrong - getting on a bit so memory not so good!

It is very exciting and it was my first time this year and there really isn't anything that can prepare you for the day!  It is a show all on its own and I was pleased to have been part of it!  I have two of my boys qualified - and hopefully will qualify my other boy too - just a tough year in post grad.

good luck and yes TFI Friday and off work next week - speaking of which better get on with some!!

Don't panic if you don't see them available in October or early November.  I can remeber one year when they only became available for LKA which is in December.

As soon as they are available, they will be on the schedule table at most open shows, and always available at champ shows. Good Luck.

Mind you, last year I didn't get sent a schedule, although I had been for the 2 years previously. Had to pick one up at LKA, but I'm not doing any more champ shows this year (too expensive when nobody seems to like my boy this year!), so I'll have to get one posted if they don't send one this time! :-(

Thanks everyone...patience never was my strong suit - can you tell! I shall wait until the end of the year before I start chomping at the bit any more then!! Really I'm going to next years for the experience - for me as well as the pupster. I don't really think he'll do much - prob not the judges cup of tea but we wont know til we get there and I think it'd be good to experience Crufts under a judge we're not expecting much from before we do it next time under a judge I really want to go under! Hope that makes sense.... :)

I've seen some pictures of exhibitors that seem to have a piece of cloth under their dog's back feet - is that to stop them slipping on the green baize? I've got some paw wax - would that do the trick?

You might be surprised Vinnie - this year I expected the judge would throw us out without a 2nd glance, and she gave us VHC! :-)

I heard that the Crufts judges are picked a couple of years in advance, is this true? Does anyone know how i could find out who's judging Saint Bernards at Crufts '07.

Hi there

St Bernards judge Crufts 2007 is a MR T Munroe (spelling?)

If you go to the Crufts bit on The Kennel Club Website and then look in the Exhibitors part it gives you judge info there :-)
