Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / Bloodlines?!?!?
- By QT [us] Date 22.08.02 04:30 UTC
Can anyone help me here? I am looking for any information on a few Australian Shepherd bloodlines. I am having no luck with books and search engines. The bloodlines are 'Farr's Tuff Guy' and 'Morris Reese'. These are the bloodlines of my dog. His breeder has since moved and I am unable to locate her for further assistance. Thank you for any help or suggestions on where to look.

Hi QT

This is my first posting to the forum, although I have "visited" it a lot!! I too am "owned" by a couple of Aussies (& 2 labs & 2 persian cats & 4 moggies etc etc!!).

We are hoping to breed from Loki (our 2 year old Aussie) as soon as she comes into season. She has been hip scored (3.2) and eye tested (clear) and we have taken advice upon which stud to use with her, whose lines will complement hers. There still aren't that many Aussies in the UK, but I have found that I have been helped so much by the breeders here.

I found that there is an American website - hrdndogs.com/pedigree which is excellent for Aussies - if you put in just one of the names behind your dogs, you can get so much information - which is really useful.

QT, have you got a breed club in your country? If you have, they might be able to help you with pedigree details :-)

Welcome to the forum Lokis Mum :-)

I would imagine there would be a pearent and regional clubs, as the Australian shephered (despite it's name) is an American breed.

Find the American Kennel Club website, and you will probably find links to the breed club/s. Try google search for AKC!

Well tried the ASCA and they dont have the records of those names. Hope the AKC has something!! If not... I am probably not going to use him for breeding to my lil bitch. Will have to find a different stud dog elsewhere. Dont think I should breed him without a history on him. Though he himself is an excelent dog. We'll see. Thanks for all the help.
BTW what bloodlines are popular there in the UK? Australian Shepherds are becoming more common over here in the US but still isnt a large genetic pool. I am hoping to branch out a little more rather than cling to the 3 or 4 bloodlines that everyone else is breeding and inbreeding for. Hopefully I can find another good combination to widen the choices.

Have you had a look through the list of breeders on here? I think there were about fifteen. That may give you some idea of lines used in this country. The lady who runs my local dog club has a Lyveden pup.

Hi QT

I checked out the two names on Herding dogs , and according to those records there was one progeny off those 2 dogs a red merle male named Banks Finbar Lucky Seventeen born 14 the November 1997 is this your dog ?? If it is he has an AKC registration number of DL80961201, you could check up with them what info they have , it might be very limited as when the AKC originally opened up its registry lots of people opted NOT to register with AKC and stay purely stock dog registered or ASCA registered.

Seeing as ASCA has no records try your National Stock Dog Registry it might be that his parents are on their records.

Aussies in the UK registrations number somewhere between 800-900 dogs now there are a varied amount of bloodlines available in the UK and more importations being made every year with the intention of widening the gene pool available.

Yes it is very difficult to find new and varied bloodlines as the Aussie was created from a very small gene pool originally so that you will find that if you go far enough back in your pedigree we all come from the same few dogs.

QT also try your local ASCA Aussie club they may know of your dogs parents, if not why not try putting out an enquiry on aussie-L or maybe aussie-Plus these are internet discussion lists with lots of US breeders and aussie lovers on maybe someone out there knows where your dogs breeder is now.
