:confused:Some friends of mine, a sweet old couple, are being plagued by phone calls day & night, for Pit bull pupies!!!  Turns out their tel no. is appearing somewhere in an advert & all the scum of the earth are phoning day & night!!! No one seems prepared to tell them where they saw the number...very "cloak & dagger"!!! but is there anything they can do apart from change their tel. no???

unplug the phone? I think its a case of fingers crossed that its been printed wrong in a paper or something and in time it will stop, as far as i know theres nothing that can be done you can sign up to stop companys but as for private numbers

I think the problem is that it is probably lots of different numbers??  If it was just one number I think you can barr that number (not sure how mind you?) but if it's lots of different numbers then answerphone or unplugging may be the best thing?

how about next time someone phones ask which paper they saw the advert in as you have placed a few ads etc, that way you can find out where it is coming from and get in touch

Might be easiest to change the number.  It's not difficult just contact the line provider and tell them what's happening.  When they get the new number go ex-directory and sign up with TPS

Easy to change the number, not so easy to have to tell everyone you have contact with your new number. :( - what a pain.

Get BT to activate the 1571 answerphone service. Record a message saying "This number has been incorrectly printed in an advert regarding puppies. We do NOT have puppies of any description for sale. If you are a genuine caller for this number leave a message". Leave that on for a couple of weeks and it should blow over :)

You can register with the "Telophone Preference Service"  this should stop unwanted calls,  and if you do get any ask for there name first, then tell them you are registerd with the TPS   , and you are going to report them, they can get into trouble for ringing you when you are registered!

The TPS won't stop this type of call tho' :(

Hi,
I think you can ask BT to intercept your calls, you could ask them for advice.

When my Dad started getting a bit upset over unsolicited calls, we had his phone number changed and also made ex-directory (because an alarm company later exposed on national TV had persuaded him to pay £4000 for an alarm he didn't need, & kept pestering him).
