Just recently my PC is going soooooo slow. Every time I click on things it takes forever to load up. I have checked the free space and still have 3/4 of the hard drive free. Its driving me batty, especially as I accidently deleted all my pics on MS frontpage so am having to put them all back on my website. Any idea what might be the problem
Thnx

don't know how you do it but it probably needs defragmenting?? just an idea but sure someone who is a bit more technically savvy than me will help.

I'm happy using software etc. but when it comes to the hardware I switch off and leave that to the experts! ;)

If you look in Programmes and System Tools, you will find the defrag. It's best to run it at night or when you are out as it can take a very long time :)

The size of the hard drive doesn't really matter much, how much RAM have you got? I found once my old computer filled up with programmes etc I did not manage with just 512 MB RAM as it slowed everything down so much. (Makes the mind boggle how my fist one had all of 16 MB!!) I now have 1024 MB and that works fine. It could be that you don't have a lot of RAM and a lot of progammes running invisbly in the background (possible also spyware) which uses it all up -that's a common problem.  If you have less than 1024 I'd be tempted to increase it.

Go to the Control Panel and double click on System. That bring up a square with info, and there it should give you details of your computer including the amount of RAM. :)

Well it says  1.6ghz 224MB so does that explain the problem:(

It may be an idea to delete temporary internet files as well.  On your browser Select Tools/Internet Options - the window that opens up in the middle of it you should see two radio buttons - Delete Cookies and Delete Files .  Select both of those one after the other - it could be that these are clogging things up a bit.

Hiya

If you go here

http://www.crucial.com/uk/?gclid=CKymz8a_6YYCFRM1VgodjQnaAQ

and click on the link 'scan my system' (blue bar on the right) it will scan your pc and tell you what memory you have, wether you have any free memory slots and will inform you the correct memory to purchase.

Thanks
I did just try it but it did not recognise my system:confused: I bought it from local computer shop a few years ago. It does seem a bit better now but I might upgrade it anyway Thanks

Sorry if I am stating the obvious, but you could have a virus...have you scanned for this?

Hi, a good program to use is one called "System Mechanic" you could probably download a trial for 30 days and run it a few times in that duration. It has several different settings on it one of which is system speed up, it fixes all the settings, deletes spyware etc and you can also use the program to clean your pc up, optimize it and plenty of other things. http://www.iolo.com/sm/ you can download it there, its what i use and it was recommended to me by a computer technician. I love it as it has improved my pc performance loads and it also does regular analysis to tell you where you need to improve :)

Hope iv helped ya, as someone said RAM can be an issue but only if your running too many things at once, if its slow in future try closing a few things. It might not be RAM though it may just be that theres so much clutter and that your settings arnt optimal.

Richard.
