everyone is wishing for willies for michelled but Willie my cat also needs some wishes. He came in monday evening after i had gone to bed and immediately got under the covers and slept all night huddled up to me, which seeing as Willie spends his nights hunting this was very unusual. In the morning when i found he was still in i looked him over only to discover that his tail appeared to be broken, he had no feeling in it, it was cold and it was hanging limply. As Daisy was going to the vets i took willie along with me, the vet was worried he had been hit by a car and the state of his claws confirmed it, :( so he kept him in to do xrays, i had only been back at work 10 mins (vet is 20 mins from work) when i had a phone call to say Willie had indeed broken his tail, he could neither urinated or relieve his bowels on his own due to bruising to his pelvic area, so he has to have this done by the nurses a the vet, he may regain the use of his bladder and bowels once the bruising has gone, and his tail may mend on its own, he has to stay at the vets until he can toilet on his own, and only when the bruising has gone will the vet be able to see whether on not Willies tail will need amputing. The injury was more than likely caused by a car wheel going over his tail and willie running as the break is a pulling injury rather than a crushing, its surprising that just a split second can cause so much damage. so everyone wish for Willies speedy recovery :)

Ouch! Poor thing - we lost our cat this year after 12 years because she was run over. I do feel for you because there is nothing you can realistically do to stop them doing it again. My cat was knocked by a car when she was a kitten and that did stop her from going out to the front of the house right up until the day we lost her so hopefully when you get Willie home maybe the same will happen and he will stay closer. Best wishes
I do feel for you because there is nothing you can realistically do to stop them doing it again. Of course there is, you just do not let them out...........

Exactly the same thing happened to our cat a few years ago. The vet was going to amputate her tail but wanted to wait until she was sure that the cat was able to unrinate etc first. It took a few days but when the swelling went down the function came back :). Her tail by this time had recovered a little so the vet postponed the amputation to see how she recovered.
She's still with us 4 years later with full tail although I suspect that she doesn't have full feeling in the bottom half of it as she doesn't react if it's touched.
aahh best wishes for a good recovery. sending hugs your way ((())))

Gosh, another Willie; even spelled the same way. I named a kitten we found Willie and found a wonderful home for him. Another kitten we had we named Woody. My sister thinks I have some kind of perversion. LOL.
Good wishes going out to your Willie. My sister's cat experienced much the same thing and recovered though his tail was always "dead" and they had to watch it didn't drag in the snow and get frozen. Sadly, his next encounter with a car (he got left out one night by mistake) did not have such a good ending.

Bless him, sending best wishes for a speedy recovery.

Ohh Tanya, so sorry to hear about poor Willie...I have 2 cats too and know how much it hurts when they hurt! Sending Willie wishes...and prayers and hugs!! All the best, Dawn XX

Have re-read your post and wonder if your Willie cannot be catheterized? That would at least take care of the urination. That's what the Vet did for my sister's cat, with a little taped harness to hold it in place.
Oh, and to add, my sister's cat's tail was not dead, wrong words. He just couldn't move it due to nerve damage. The tail was alive.
Thank you all, i lost 2 of my cats last year within six months of each other, Arnie was hit so hard he was skinned :( and Tilly had only turned a year old the week before, she was spooked by a firework and ran in front of a car :( , so i have said no more cats as the roads are just too dangerous.
I went to see Willie this evening and it was very hard not to say 'Hows my Willie?' or 'hows my willie look today?' :D the more i thought that it wasnt the best thing to say the harder it was not to say it :D
He looks much better and has the appetite of a horse which is good otherwise he would need a drip, he still is going to the toilet on his own so he needs some assistance from the vet, his tail still has no movement, i had Bruce with me he was pleased to see one of his four legged family members, fingers crossed he will be able to go on his own before much longer so he can come home.

Glad to hear there is improvement and wish him well. And maybe you will be able to keep him inside when he comes home - my cat wouldnt stand it but yours might. Best wishes,
When we first got him we kept him in and the plan was that he wouldnt go out until he was casturated, and we were doing really well or so we thought until one of the neighbours brought him back home

he is also the neighbourhood pied piper, he is the smallest cat in the street (my rabbits are bigger) yet he catches more vermin than any of the others, you quite frequently see him hurdling six foot fences with an adult rat in his mouth :) he would go stir crazy kept indoors, he is a real outdoor cat and only comes in for his dinner, he treats me like a hotel at times :D

I spoke to the vet today and he has had to put a cathater in as willie still isnt going to the toilet, he could be in the vets for another 1-2 weeks :( but the nurses love him and he has started to play again which is a real improvement to wednesday when i last saw him
