Best bits ??? Mmmmmmm - erm ...... Big ears ??????? :D :D :D
Daisy
So I have a few questions
1. When did you first own a dog?
When I was 6 a Border collier
2. What is the most you have ever had ever or now ?2 Greyhounds and now 2 GSDs
3. How many breeds do you own , ever or now?Owned Border collie, poodles, greyhounds, springers and GSD`s
4. Do you breed ?Never
5. How many of the breeds you own do you show?None
6. How many of your dogs are kept in kennels or in the house? In the House
7. How many litters do you ever have from one bitch?
Dont breed
8. So are genetics, looks ( eg. if my bitch has short legs compared to the breed standard do I get a sire that has legs that are longer to try and get it right) , the amount of show CH, FTCH etc in both the sire and Dam. Please put the three things in order and explain why N/A
9. If anybody says to you by the way I am not a Puppy farmer what would you think
why would they even think to mention it !
How about cloning him? Then you could have a colony!!

1. When did you first own a dog?A very stupid family friend bought me a dog for my christening present in 1973 - after six months it had to be pts for biting just about everyone and everything. After a dogless but cat filled childhood my own first dog arrived in January 1995 in a cardboard box abandoned outside where i worked.
2. What is the most you have ever had ever or now ?Tricky, in the house at present are 9, however, only 4 of them are mine! The most I have had is 5
3. How many breeds do you own , ever or now?2 breeds - swedish vallhund & german spitz. Have also had cross breeds
4. Do you breed ?Yes, kind of, occasionally, if the girls want to (they aren't easy to breed)
5. How many of the breeds you own do you show?one (the german spitz got too big and can't be shown)
6. How many of your dogs are kept in kennels or in the house?all of them in the house when we are there, when we are not, or when the girls are in season the boys go out to the kennel runs in the garage
7. How many litters do you ever have from one bitch?2 maximum
8. So are genetics, looks ( eg. if my bitch has short legs compared to the breed standard do I get a sire that has legs that are longer to try and get it right) , the amount of show CH, FTCH etc in both the sire and Dam. Please put the three things in order and explain whyGenetics, including correct temperament and good health history of the line, would be the most important, then whether the dog and bitch compliment each other, if there is a title then thats fine but not really important
9. If anybody says to you by the way I am not a Puppy farmer what would you thinkdepends on the context of the conversation but in my cynical mind i'd probably be saying "yeah right". Luckily my main breed is not commercially viable for any puppy farmer.

Can I ask why it would be interesting to see who didnt answer? I havent answered because I didnt think my answers would be interesting enough - only just having a dog for the first time and only having him for six weeks now. But if that seems dodgy I'll answer for sure......

1. When did you first own a dog?I got my first dog for my third birthday. My mum did all the looking after of her!
2. What is the most you have ever had ever or now ?We've only ever had one dog at a time and say we'll never go through the heartache again. We always do.
3. How many breeds do you own , ever or now?Have only had toy poodles.
4. Do you breed?No
5. How many of the breeds you own do you show?None
6. How many of your dogs are kept in kennels or in the house? My dog is kept in the house.
7. How many litters do you ever have from one bitch?N/A

Interesting - why are you doing the survey? Hope this helps.
1 My first dog was a labrador X when I was about 13. I badgered my mother for a dog and then she found she was expecting my sister - an unplanned event that meant that the dog was rehomed to a friend.
2 Only ever had one dog at a time. Often dream about having a second but it is not realistic.
3 Had an Irish Setter bitch followed by an English Setter dog. Too old to go lifting long legged animals over stiles any longer and have a border collie bitch now.
4 Not interested in breeding.
5 When we bought the English Setter we seriously thought about showing - went along a few times but could not give it the time to do it justice.
6 Dog kept in the house
7. N/A
8. Don't breed - but a good looking dog is very important but not at the expense of temperament. Our present dog is a farm bred collie - yes she is pretty - short haired but red and white - her glossy coat makes everyone say what a good looking dog she is. I didn't want a pedigree this time - our last dog had super breeding but was hard work and difficult to enjoy. This one has no breeding but a super character - still hard work though but enjoying her company.
9. Why would anyone say this? I bought my collie from a shepherd with 7 working dogs. His 3 bitches had come into season at roughly the same time so he had 3 litters when we went to view. That could be said to be puppy farming I suppose but he made no excuses for it. Farmers/ shepherds make money by selling puppies they don't need - fact of life. The other dog I had wanted was a Welsh Springer but I wanted a bitch. I knew that I would have had to wait a long time for one - the time for getting a new dog in my life was last summer - I couldn't wait. If anyone actually said 'btw I am not a puppy farmer' then I would have expected that to be in response to something the buyer had said. If one is buying from 'Freeads' paper then one has always got to be cautious what ever one is told over the phone. I went to see several litters before I felt that I had the right one.
here goes,
1, west highland white when a child
2, two at a time
3, over the years a wht, great dane, goldern retrever, 2x gsd, sprollie and a leonberger
4, no
5, maybe the leo when shes old enough
6, both kept in the house
7, never bred
8, dont breed
9, i would immediately think that they where covering something up

1. When did you first own a dog?
Our family acquired a boxer/Doberman cross when I was 5yrs old, followed by a golden retriever. I bought my first dog eight years ago.
2. What is the most you have ever had ever or now ?
Not including puppies, or visitors - 3. One too many for sanity!
3. How many breeds do you own , ever or now?
Two, springer and cocker spaniels.
4. Do you breed ?
I have had one litter from my bitch. Never again!
5. How many of the breeds you own do you show?
None. I work my dogs.
6. How many of your dogs are kept in kennels or in the house?
Kennel.
7. How many litters do you ever have from one bitch?
One from my bitch. I wouldn't really see a problem with her having two but she's been spayed after my decision to never breed again!
8. So are genetics, looks ( eg. if my bitch has short legs compared to the breed standard do I get a sire that has legs that are longer to try and get it right) , the amount of show CH, FTCH etc in both the sire and Dam. Please put the three things in order and explain why
Not wanting to show, I would be looking for different things, e.g. working instinct and ability. Not too bothered about looks but you need a dog you 'click' with.
9. If anybody says to you by the way I am not a Puppy farmer what would you think
Not a relevant comment at all if the owner doesn't have a whole host of dogs or puppies and only breeds occasionally, it would be obvious for all to see.

1. When did you first own a dog? I've had dogs pretty much all my life other than in the first four years of married life.
2. What is the most you have ever had ever or now ? Six - not including litters of pups, and dogs in for a bit of training.
3. How many breeds do you own , ever or now? Three at the moment; 4 labradors, a springer and a Jack Russell. I've also trained working cockers in the past, and in my childhood also had a border collie (ISDS) and we had something that was supposed to be a Yorkshire terrier!
4. Do you breed ? Occasionally
5. How many of the breeds you own do you show? None. I've no interest in showing. The labs and springer are working gundogs, occasionally field trialled.
6. How many of your dogs are kept in kennels or in the house? All my current dogs are kept in kennels.
7. How many litters do you ever have from one bitch? I've had three from one bitch. I doubt that I would ever exceed four. I think bitches are only rarely really worth breeding from, but if they are, then its worth having at least a couple of litters.
8. So are genetics, looks ( eg. if my bitch has short legs compared to the breed standard do I get a sire that has legs that are longer to try and get it right) , the amount of show CH, FTCH etc in both the sire and Dam. Please put the three things in order and explain why
First : Genetics , Second : Breeding (but not as simplistic as a count of FTChs) Third : Looks
From a 'genetics' point of view my priorities are working ability, temperament and physical soundness. I wouldn't put an order on these as for me its like choosing if the dog should have a head, a body or some legs! Once those prerequisites are sorted then I would also be looking for strength in depth in the pedigree and an absence of show bloodlines. Once these things are in place, I'd be considering the 'looks' aspect.
9. If anybody says to you by the way I am not a Puppy farmer what would you think It is not really my business what someone does with their dogs, however I'll have my own personal opinion about whether I like the stock that they produce, the conditions that they are kept in and if I would buy from them.

1.
When did you first own a dog?I will not count the dogs that I owned as child because although I may have thought of them as my own the reality is they are always the parents responsibility. I owned my first dog as an independent adult, therefore, in 1982
2.
What is the most you have ever had ever or now ?Three
3.
How many breeds do you own , ever or now?As an adult, two
4.
Do you breed ?Occasionally
5.
How many of the breeds you own do you show? One
6.
How many of your dogs are kept in kennels or in the house? All in the house.
7.
How many litters do you ever have from one bitch?Three
8.
So are genetics, looks ( eg. if my bitch has short legs compared to the breed standard do I get a sire that has legs that are longer to try and get it right) , the amount of show CH, FTCH etc in both the sire and Dam. Please put the three things in order and explain why Genetics, temperament, looks they all have importance to me. Show certificates are not particularly important but I suppose they serve to alert you to investigate a pedigree further.
9.
If anybody says to you by the way I am not a Puppy farmer what would you think I would not think anything I depends entirely on what else was being said.

As everyone has been extremely forthcoming in supplying this information, Lucy, perhaps you would not mind be equally forthcoming and telling us exactly what you are planning to do with all this data?Of course Isabel :)
I have been invited to go and visit somebodies kennels :)
They are a multi-dog, multi breed breeder and I have sort of questioned them extensively on it :)
They have assured me that they are doing it for all the best reasons and so I am quite willing to be opened minded but want to gain and much info from other people on the general way most people do things.
That way I will be able to hopefully give an informed opinion if and when I do go and visit :)
It is also very interesting reading everybodies answers and has given me and hopefully a few other people an interesting read :)

Yes, it has been very interesting :)
Personally I would go and visit them with that open mind of yours though, Lucy, what you and I might feel inclined to do with our dogs does not really reflect on what is right for others to do. I would happily deal with lots of breeders whose ways would never be mine. The fact that you are welcome to visit speaks volumes to me.

The fact that you are welcome to visit speaks volumes to meHe was very interested that I work for Lab rescue and said he would welcome my opinion from a welfare slant as well to how well he keeps his dogs :)

What Isabel said.
Not in relation to this particular case, just a general point, but something that I often find myself making assumptions based on is the choice of breeds that a multi-breed kennel may have. Over-simplification and example picked out of thin air, but I'd have a different view of a kennel that had a number of different hound breeds for example, compared to a kennel that 'just happened' to have a selection of very different but highly commercial breeds.
We've all seen the kennels that 'just happen' to have Golden Retrievers, Labs, Cavaliers and Yorkies for example ...
M.
1. When did you first own a dog?
In 1997 I got my first dog, I was 8 years old. Of course my parents took over most things back then but I have gradually taken over responsibility for her, and now I do everything except pay the vet bills :D
I got my first dog that is 100% mine earlier this year.
2. What is the most you have ever had ever or now ?
2 dogs, as I have now.
3. How many breeds do you own , ever or now?
1 breed (Toller) and 1 crossbreed
4. Do you breed ?
No
5. How many of the breeds you own do you show?
1 (well, in 1 month's time I will start showing him :D)
6. How many of your dogs are kept in kennels or in the house?
Both in the house
7. How many litters do you ever have from one bitch?
N/A (but if I did breed it would probably be 2-3 maximum)
8. So are genetics, looks ( eg. if my bitch has short legs compared to the breed standard do I get a sire that has legs that are longer to try and get it right) , the amount of show CH, FTCH etc in both the sire and Dam. Please put the three things in order and explain why
N/A (But I believe health and temperament are the most important)
9. If anybody says to you by the way I am not a Puppy farmer what would you think
I would instantly be suspicious and try to find out what their breeding practices actually are.

1. When did you first own a dog?
My father owned, show and bred, and bought me my own dog for my 14th birthday...(he wanted it to stregthen his line and killed too birds with one stone

2. What is the most you have ever had ever or now ?
10.. I have 10 just now... when I was working I never had more than 3, luckily I could take them into work with me
3. How many breeds do you own , ever or now?
Always had Labradors, but have also had 2 Working ESS and an OES rescue
4. Do you breed ?
yes
How many of the breeds you own do you show?
Labradors only
6. How many of your dogs are kept in kennels or in the house?
All dogs are in the house except when I have a litter, mum and litter in the house, and the rabble are relegated to the stables for around 4 weeks, and then integrated back into the house with mum and pups
7. How many litters do you ever have from one bitch?
Only one from each of my girls, except one girl, I took 2 litters from
8. So are genetics, looks ( eg. if my bitch has short legs compared to the breed standard do I get a sire that has legs that are longer to try and get it right) , the amount of show CH, FTCH etc in both the sire and Dam. Please put the three things in order and explain why
(1)temperament (Paramount) (2) breed standard (3)winners
9. If anybody says to you by the way I am not a Puppy farmer what would you think
Would wonder why so defensive, and challenge reasoning
1. When did you first own a dog? When I was four years old my father brought home a puppy, and another one for the neighbours, both of whom were slated to be disposed of by dropping down the incinerator. Ghastly, but that's the story and imagine letting a four-year old hear that. We had him for 16 and a half years.
2. What is the most you have ever had ever or now ?In 40.5 years I've had three dogs, all one at a time.
3. How many breeds do you own , ever or now?Three, I guess, though the first was a mixed breed.
4. Do you breed ?Dogs? No.
5. How many of the breeds you own do you show?Right now? None. Current dog was agility trialed.
6. How many of your dogs are kept in kennels or in the house?First dog outside, not in a kennel, but tied up with a warm house and only brought in when overnight temperature dropped below 0 degrees F. Second dog in house but only allowed downstairs due to jealousy issues with the cat. Current dog has the run of the house and our bed.
7. How many litters do you ever have from one bitch?N/A re. 4.
8. So are genetics, looks ( eg. if my bitch has short legs compared to the breed standard do I get a sire that has legs that are longer to try and get it right) , the amount of show CH, FTCH etc in both the sire and Dam. Please put the three things in order and explain why. Answered because while I am not a breeder of dogs I might consider these things when getting a dog. I will presume by genetics you mean health, though it would also govern looks. Looks being the easiest way to tell one breed from many others I'd have to say looks come first. Then assurances that genetic predisposition to certain known problems is as low as possible. Show history, trialling history, obedience titles, gundog capabilities, assistance/therapy work and or police work might all be indications of intellect, capability, drive, ease of training, disposition and a host of other characteristics that would be of interest but not necessarily a requisite.
9. If anybody says to you "by the way I am not a Puppy farmer", what would you think? I would immediately be suspicious as to why they brought it up in the first place.

1. When did you first own a dog?
When i was about 2 then not again untill i reached 24.
2. What is the most you have ever had ever or now ?
2
3. How many breeds do you own , ever or now?
Only had crosses from rescues/family
4. Do you breed ?
No and never will, leave that to the experts
5. How many of the breeds you own do you show?
Dont show
6. How many of your dogs are kept in kennels or in the house?
All house dogs untill they stay at a friends then their suppose to be kennelled but mostly running around their house  till bedtime
7. How many litters do you ever have from one bitch?
Never bred
8. So are genetics, looks ( eg. if my bitch has short legs compared to the breed standard do I get a sire that has legs that are longer to try and get it right) , the amount of show CH, FTCH etc in both the sire and Dam. Please put the three things in order and explain why
If i was to buy a puppy to add to my household i would look for a well bred puppy with excellent temperment and good health checks, then i would ask on here when such pup was found for advice on the answers given before deciding on said pup.
9. If anybody says to you by the way I am not a Puppy farmer what would you think
I would look at the surroundings of the puppies and judge for myself however alarm bells would be ringing and i would walk away if in any doubt however small.
1. When did you first own a dog?
When I was 18 and working in kennels I took on a rescue collie x GSD (or should I say she decided I could look after her) although i was brought up with a GR and a cocker.
2. What is the most you have ever had ever or now ?
Only the one as my old collie x had too many behaviour problems!
3. How many breeds do you own , ever or now?
I have one Gordon Setter but am waiting for another puppy (whenever his auntie's will come into season to be mated!!)
4. Do you breed ?
No - don't know enough yet!
5. How many of the breeds you own do you show?
i show my Gordon but when I was young I showed Bernese and a Newfie ( The bernese hated it and spent the whole time trying to drag me out of the ring!!)
6. How many of your dogs are kept in kennels or in the house?
My dog goes in a kennel during the day when we are out at work but sleeps in at night and has the run of downstairs when we are at home
7. How many litters do you ever have from one bitch?
N/A
8. So are genetics, looks ( eg. if my bitch has short legs compared to the breed standard do I get a sire that has legs that are longer to try and get it right) , the amount of show CH, FTCH etc in both the sire and Dam. Please put the three things in order and explain why
If I was to breed I'd probably look at temperment and genetics first
9. If anybody says to you by the way I am not a Puppy farmer what would you think
Alarm bells would ring but then I'm naturally suspicious of people until know them!
1 when did you first own a dog?I was about 14 or 15 and took over the lab x whippet I'd been walking for 2 years
2 What is the most you have ever had ever or now? all at once, 3 .
3 How many breeds do you own, ever or now? BSD and crossbreed lab/whippet, JRT.
4 Do you breed? No - I would be so fussy over the sort of training, upbringing and life the pup had I'd be way too stressed out.
5 How many of the breeds you own do you show? None. I don't show.
6 How many of your dogs are kept in kennels or in the house?
All in the house, always. BSDs aren't kennel dogs really and besides I'd as soon put my OH outside :D
7 How many litters do you ever have from one bitch? N'/A but if I did breed I'd pride myself on having a very few litters with quality matings
8 So are genetics, looks...
I'd study everything relevant and breed with care, and devotion to the breed. I'm not sure what is most important but temperament is very, as let's face it some of most litters do go for pets and end up in pet homes. Genetics is also very important as it can mean the difference between health and illness and the decline or not of a whole breed.
9 If anyone said to you, by the way, I am not a Puppy Farmer....
I'd take it in context. If the person is aware of puppy farming and is afraid they may sound like one (eg they may live in Wales) I could understand them mentioning it. I'd not judge them out of hand, I'd consider why they said that. I'd also be aware that beautiful homes, land etc can conceal terrible sheds with many dogs in like the Yorkie breeder recently... I'd want to see everything if I was told I was welcome, I think.
People with more than one litter at a time would be suspect to me as I'd think they maybe didn't have waiting homes which is the ideal - they may not be farmers but perhaps aren't far off in one sense...

i bred my first bitch to a dog with a larger head because my bitch has a slightly small head, also
the stud was doing well in show had a ch himself and there was a good bloodline in my bitches and the studs family tree. second bitch was with the previous studs offspring from another bitch again to breed bigger pups which we are more than happy with.
9. If anybody says to you by the way I am not a Puppy farmer what would you think
i would think why, they would have said that and would be wary of them. but also give them,
the benefit of the doubt.

All my dogs have been kept in the house
7. How many litters do you ever have from one bitch?

N/A - although from the perspective of an owner I would say that genetics and temperament are exceedngly important and probably the latter is the direct result of the former!
9. If anybody says to you by the way I am not a Puppy farmer what would you think
I'd be inclined to treat them with the same suspicion as I do people who start conversations by insisting they aren't racist/sexist or homophobic. Because experience has taught me that this particular conversational opener usually precedes a string of racist/sexist or homophobic remarks!

Sorry Lucy just wondered why you said does anyone think this is useless and why - of course you were the original poster and my question as to why you were conducting your survey has been answered. By the time I pressed post numerous other people had posted so my reply was way back not the last one seen.

I do think it is interesting as I am always interested in peoples history in dogs but I also think it is maybe not particularly useful for your purposes :)
I think you have to decide for yourself if this breeder breeds and raises dogs in the manner that you, personally, find acceptable. For instance the fact that just about every poster here keeps their dogs in the house, seems to me, absolutely no indication that a breeder that chooses not to is in anyway unacceptable. Every bodies idea as to what constitutes a "puppy farmer" is going to be different but perhaps a direct discussion on the issue may have been more useful to assist you in determining where your feelings might lie on the subject. In case you go on and ask ;) my definition would be anyone whose breeding activities are outwith the code of conduct of their breed's club. I don't
know what is an acceptable number of breeds, number of litters, place of residence and I don't know of anyway that anyone
could quantify these things.

The question that intrigues me is the last. As I see it, if someone says they're not a puppy farmer it's along the lines of saying that they're not a child molester or a wife-beater. Why would they mention it if they didn't feel (justified or not) guilty as charged?
By Isabel

I think it depends entirely on the context. For instance, if several questions have been asked that the interviewee recognises as relating to the subject they may come out with such a statement.
Feeling guilty as charged does not
make you guilty as charged. Only a real trial can do that :)

Lucy - it has just occured to me that there may be members of CD who do not want to make this sort of information public - but who might be prepared to send it to you by PM - would you accept that as part of your survey, or are you solely interested in what people publicly state?

1. When did you first own a dog?1988
2. What is the most you have ever had ever or now ?Five + 1/4
3. How many breeds do you own , ever or now?One at a time, but two ever.
4. Do you breed ?Yes
5. How many of the breeds you own do you show?Showed both the breeds I have owned
6
. How many of your dogs are kept in kennels or in the house? Dogs sleep in kennel at night only but always at least one stays in the house
7. How many litters do you ever have from one bitch?Three, though would consider four from an exceptional bitch if it meant adding something new to the gene pool
8. So are genetics, looks ( eg. if my bitch has short legs compared to the breed standard do I get a sire that has legs that are longer to try and get it right) , the amount of show CH, FTCH etc in both the sire and Dam. Please put the three things in order and explain why Using a dog with an opposing fault to your bitch is a poor way to breed as you are likely to get pups with both faults and maybe none just in between. I would use a dog who excelled in my bitches poorest feature hoping that at least some would inherit this, an only some the mothers less good, rather than add another fault to the mix. I would expect the dog to be of the quality to do well at shows, though not necessarily a title holder yet.
9. If anybody says to you by the way I am not a Puppy farmer what would you think I would suspect they were.
1. When did you first own a dog?

5. How many of the breeds you own do you show?
None
6. How many of your dogs are kept in kennels or in the house?
My dogs have always been kept in the house
Temperament always important

6. How many of your dogs are kept in kennels or in the house?
All kept in the house.
7. How many litters do you ever have from one bitch?
Only had one, But 3 would be the most.
8. So are genetics, looks ( eg. if my bitch has short legs compared to the breed standard do I get a sire that has legs that are longer to try and get it right) , the amount of show CH, FTCH etc in both the sire and Dam. Please put the three things order and explain why. Temperament is very important, All health test should be carried out, that the breed requires, Genetics takes alot of understanding, I used my breeder and stud dog owners advice on this as she is a championship judge and has been in the breed for 36 years and has had many champions.
9. If anybody says to you by the way I am not a Puppy farmer what would you think
Alarm bells would ring, but I would use my eyes and ask lots of questions then make my own mind up.

9. If anybody says to you by the way I am not a Puppy farmer what would you think
I would suspect that they were :)
I would have to go and see them to find out for myself, but it's not the kind of statement I'd expect a reputable breeder to make.
1. When did you first own a dog?
Family dog at age 8 and 12 - our own dog in 1967
2. What is the most you have ever had ever or now ?
Had two until 2004 - only one puppy now

Health history, then temperament and character are the most important for me.
9. If anybody says to you by the way I am not a Puppy farmer what would you think
I'd probably think they bred in a manner that would make people ask the question.

1. When did you first own a dog?
Grew up with a Corgi who was a show/pet and was entrusted his care at an early age(feeding and grooming, walking and training - when old enough) Owned my own dog 20 years ago, bought my first dog 6 years ago.
2. What is the most you have ever had ever or now ?
2 at any time (so far ;) )
3. How many breeds do you own , ever or now?
6 different (Corgi, Tibetan Terrier, Cairn T, Cocker, Affie X, Bedlington Terrier) but now only Bedlington terriers. Apart from the Corgi and Bedlingtons all others were rescues.
4. Do you breed ?
Have had one litter from my first Bedlington (have bred Burmese Cats in the past) may have one from the second.
5. How many of the breeds you own do you show?
only have Bedlingtons now and they are shown
6. How many of your dogs are kept in kennels or in the house?
All my dogs are house dogs
7. How many litters do you ever have from one bitch?
didn't have the choice with first bitch, but 2 maximum
8. So are genetics, looks ( eg. if my bitch has short legs compared to the breed standard do I get a sire that has legs that are longer to try and get it right) , the amount of show CH, FTCH etc in both the sire and Dam, Temperament. Please put the three things in order and explain why
1. Temperament (It's harder to live with a bad tempered dog than an ugly one ;) ) 2. Health - what's the point of breeding dogs that will inherit health problems, that way is a blind alley! ) 3. Looks - if the bitch is lacking in certain areas I'd look for a dog who was close to the standard, complemented her and was really close to the standard in her weaker areas, and no really bad faults. Mixing too short and too long legs (for example) just produces a mix of too short and long in the pups. Breeding Too short and ideal length should produce at least some pups with correct leg length. Show successes - I like to see a mix of show success and working ability, in Bedlies at least, I like the qualities of both types and a dog should be able to perform the task it was originally bred for.
9. If anybody says to you by the way I am not a Puppy farmer what would you think
Hmmm... I'd have to keep an open mind and see how things were, puppy farming is as much a state of mind and attitude as too many/ disparate breeds. Are there too many dogs/pups to give individual attention to them and the pups? What condition/s are they in? How many litters at any one time etc. However if they feel the need to mention it - it does beg the question ;) (in my mind anyway)

okeydokey then!
1. When I was 8, my sister brought home a springer X irish water spaniel due to be put down because the owner didn't want her any more.
2. 2, the troublesome twosome I have now, although I look after a 3rd.
3. Technically one - dobermann - as the other 2 are both crossbreeds.
4. No
5. I don't show
6. All kept in the house downstairs.
7. n/a but if I were to breed I'd probably limit it to 3, one every other year the dam was 3 yrs old
8. oo eck... limited exp. obviously but I'll give it a go!... I'd go for genetics first (health v important), followed by show results then looks - I would also assume that a dog or bitch with good show results would be well-proportioned, although that'd depend on the judge in each case.
9. I'd be dubious - IMO a good, reputable breeder wouldn't have to reassure my that they weren't a puppy farmer as the dogs, conditions of the property and the million questions they'd asked (and answers they'd given me), as well as the relevant health testing results for the breed, should show that they are a good breeder and not in it for the money.
