My pharaoh had to have his ear examined by the vets last week, he flatly refused to let her put the lighted scope thing in his ear.  He had to be sedated for her to do it, whereby she discovered he had somthing on his eardrum but even under sedation she couldn't remove it because he was still wriggling so he had to go back for a GA in a couple of days.  It turned out to be fly!!!  Anyway I went back last night for a final check to make sure he was ok and he still completely refused to let her stick the scope in his ear, she said that even when he was under GA he was still flinching and they had to put him under deeper and that if he ever gets problems with his ears in future he need to be sedated/under GA for an examination.  She said that I needed to get him used to having his ears touch, I tried to explain that I have and he does let me (and her) touch his ears and I can wipe them out, he just doesn't like things being stuck right down them.  All my other dogs are fine with ear examinations.  How is this?  Have I missed something in his training?  Hes quite a twitchy dog, maybe its something to do with his breed?

Thanks

Clair

I'd probably start by lifting he ear and holding a small torch about 2 feet away, and keep practising until you can get the torch nearer, then progress from there.
