Hi there,

I'm getting ever so slowly (and I mean slowly!) closer towards getting my first dog (well the first one that is mine alone) but I want to make sure my research is thorough and as near comprehensive as I can possibly get. My main interests lie with the sighthounds and the spitz breeds (although I wouldn't rule out a belgian shepherd). Anyway, does anybody have any links or the names of good books in order to find out what certain breeds are susceptible to?

Thanks very much.

I think it's worth getting in contact with the breed club secretary for any breeds you may be interested as, when I looked at the site mentioned, it said Pharaoh Hounds (the only breed I looked at) have no known disorders - which isn't strictly true.  On the whole they have far fewer disorders than almost any other breed but you do find cases of patella subluxation and monorchids/chryptorchids - Things which the breed club are aware of but is rarely mentioned on any site about the breed.
