hi just a quick one,
My OH is in the middle of building a new whelping box for our girl and her pups as the one we've got is not really good enough ( made as temporary measure while waiting for the materials for new one to arrive), just wondered what is the best height from the floor for the pig rails as we dont want to put them too high or too low ?
thanks KwackerZ9

The level (or very slightly lower) of the bitch's spine when she's lying flat on her side.

Just to clarify - the measurement is taken from the bitch's non-pregnant state, not when she's broadened with a bellyful of pups! (Your pups have already been born so it doesn't really apply to you!). I've found they're only needed for about a week anyway, till the pups are big and strong enough to move themselves better.
