Topic Dog Boards / Showing / Permission to show
- By rlvh [gb] Date 10.08.06 14:47 UTC
I was just wondering if anyone has asked the KC for permission to show, how long did it take to come through? A friend had their dogs cruciate operated on, now fully repaired and sound, the dog has been entered at shows as of WKC and they suddenly remembered that they hadn't asked for permission to show him so applied 2 weeks ago. They know they can't show him until they have been given permission so just wondering how long they have to wait!!
thanks

I did a similar thing recently - forgot to ask permission after having a small cyst removed from my dog's shoulder.  Get your friend to give them a call - they were really helpful to me and got my letter back to me in a matter of days.

Can't remember how long - but it wasn't very long at all - sorry I know that isn't much help is it!  Maybe only a few weeks - but it was during the Xmas period so no shows lined up at all so we weren't in much of a hurry either.

I take the letter with me but no-one has asked to see it yet - I do let them know but as his tail is so much shorter I think they kind of realise that he had an injury!

It shouldn't take too long If they are concerned then they should ring the KC the staff I've spoken to are really helpful

thanks for your replies. I spoke to my friend and passed on the info and she said she had one letter back saying that it has to go to the general committee for approval, so i suppose it really depends now on when they meet and how long it takes to decide & get the letter back out saying hopefully yes you can continue to show him!!!

I applied after getting my GSD spayed.  It took about a week if I remember correctly.

Soz for butting in :-)

If you have your bitch spayed and then apply for permission to show does there have had to been a medical reason or can it be that you just aren't going to breed from her?

I'm only asking for future reference really as we would like a bitch to show but wouldn't ever want to breed.

Thanks in advance :-)

Not anymore The rules changed in the mid 1980's

BTW some breeds coats can be altered if you spay to early

Thanks :-)

We're looking into all the options but we think we'd probably let her have 2 seasons and then spay, other than that we've looked into the different bitch contraceptives.

We have 2 dogs one neutered and one entire and we'd like to keep him entire hence the spaying query.  At least with a bitch you there's nothing missing on the outside when they are spayed, unlike dogs :D

I had to have my bitch spayed due to a pyo, the KC replied with my permission to show within the week.

I've had my young dog castrated, simply because I don't want to breed from him.  I asked my vet to put in writing that he had two normal testicles before being castrated and the KC wrote back with the permison to show in about 2 weeks.  He's only been to a couple of open shows, but i take his paperwork with me and show it to the steward before the class and ask them to make the judge aware that there is a castrated dog in the class.  Don't want the judge thinking her never had them in the first place!!! :)

It's a bit different with the girls, no obvious signs, unless the coat changes....
